Yeah, I was actually just looking at their schedule to see if there were any P5 games and was disappointed to see that there werenāt.
Theyāll have to win their conference tournament to get into the NCAA Tournament with that schedule but like JMU or Indiana State last year or Charleston the year before theyāll be a mid major that people are talking about in January/February.
Luke Murray would do nasty things with an offense of McKneely, transfer PG, Sharma, Cofie, and Chance⦠also think heād make A Rob our Samson Johnson
Yeah the pieces of a core are here plus an inside track on Chance should be compelling to an offensive minded coaching candidate. UConn has seemed to prefer bigger guards than Chance, but thereās others out there.
Sharma and Cofie should be really tantalizing to any prospective coaches if they (and a robust NIL check) can convince them to stay.
If he has the kind of year you described, his agent will be a busy man in the spring. No idea about whether or not we would actually have any interest or if he would have any interest in us. You would think he would, at least on paper, but you never know what guys are looking for or if weād give him everything he thinks heād need financially to compete.
Iāve just posted about him here because I expect him to get a P5 job in the next year or two and have a lot of success wherever he lands. I know some people in the business who think heās a savant when it comes to the offensive end of the floor.
Kelsey has weird energy. If I was a student and a short man in a full athletic tracksuit and too-much-Celsius energy was stomping around and clapping aggressively at random people, I think would call security.
Kelsey was who I was keeping an eye on as a potential TB replacement. We used to live in Charleston, and I kept following the CoC program. He could be a problem at Louisville.
That said, not sure he would have been the best cultural fit here.
He was on the Gaudio staff at Wake with Chris Mack too. Not sure if how that regime fell apart played a role in their not really pursuing him (or vice versa).
If this is your reaction then it has literally nothing to do with last nightās game. Your mind is already made up, which is fine, btw, just donāt pretend that it isnāt.
I am all about giving Ron the benefit of the doubt and want him to succeed 100%.
I also believe that weāve collectively established that the bar for him to be named HC after this season is at minimum an NCAA tourney win and potentially more like S16.
Watching the game last night (in person, courtside ) it felt clear to me that we are potentially in for a long season; realistically I would be happy at this point for a top 6 ACC finish. If we get to the tourney I will be ecstatic and surprised.
Thus, my comment is really akin to saying I think thereās a 5-10% chance of us winning a game in the tourney at this point, and thus most likely a 5% chance of Ron being named HC next year.
Take on top of that the fact that I have a close friend who recently had lunch with an individual who is directly involved in hiring/firing UVAās ADs and that there is a real desire to ānot have Tony Bennett name our next Head Coachā.
I think thatās fair I just donāt like people pretending yesterdayās game is something that it really wasnāt. Itās a Rorschach test. If fans have such a strong reaction to what they saw yesterday then the reaction probably isnāt to what they saw.
Hell, I literally have an excel spreadsheet with every possible coaching candidate for next year that Iām tracking because Iām a crazy person. But Ron is at the top of that spreadsheet until I have a reason to remove him. Personally I think it makes sense to move away from the Bennett era but as of now, itās his team and his opportunity to earn the job.
