Iâm just confused on how we shouldnât want Tony over Ron because Ron did better against Tech but now Ron is better than Byington even though Byington beat Tech and Tennessee, 2 teams Ron couldnât beat this year. And I think we can all agree Vandy has much less talent than the HoosâŚ
Fixed it for you. You were so close.
I guess you didnât know that Istanbul once went by the name Constantinople on a different message board
Re-upping two @tlgoudy takes, resident Minnesota spokesman, on Richard Pitino:
Fwiw, I asked a Gopher buddy about him and got a similar answer. Basically that he was too young for the Gopher job and thinks NM is the right spot for him.
Iâve rarely known it to be correct to play 8 guys almost exactly the same amount of time⌠unless youâre Grinnell and itâs 10+
But, admittedly - way far down the rabbit hole there. Especially because, surface level, Byington impresses me the most.
Haters in shambles now that #AllinforByington has the Cuts and HGN endorsements
I genuinely canât wait for this board to go nuclear once some more concrete rumors hit and we actually start getting into the thick of the coaching search.
Whoa whoa whoa Iâve yet to endorse!!
Iâm intrigued though.
Competing at Vandy in this SEC with a first year team and no one taller than 6â8âish is notable.
That Scott Drew interview news will have this place in SHAMBLES (completely joking)
Oh facts are not relevant to the #AllinforByington agenda, sorry
I will say that the ânobody above 6â8â rotation might legitimately be by design for Byington, he hasnât played anyone over 6â8 meaningful minutes in any of his seasons as a head coach. Granted the vast majority of those rosters were at the mid major level, but still if you canât get a single person 6â9 or above in 12 seasons as a coach to be part of your regular rotation that tells me youâre doing it on purpose.
EDIT: Correction, he did have TJ Bickerstaff his final year at JMU who was 6â9.
So youâre saying that Ben Vander Plas would have also played the 5 for Byington. Got it!
I have no idea if thatâs true (by design) but I donât love that concept.
Youâre gonna want big dudes at this level and youâre probably going to want someone with experience coaching them.
Wait Byington is only person who can make H&T #WingArmy a reality? Ok maybe Iâm cooling on the idea nowâŚ
Absolutely isâŚ4 shooters, switchable frontcourt guys has been his model. Itâll be interesting if he adjusts. Rim protection is more important at the HM level I think, the athletic differences at lower levels arenât as great, so his model is more the norm. The other part of that thoughâŚyou can get bigger guys who still do what he wants at Vandy, or UVA of course. He doesnât necessarily need to change, there are just more options available.
Heâs probably realizing this season that the main thing his roster is sorely missing is a true rim protector. He also doesnât have the wing depth heâs accustomed to.
I think his roster construction will end up being very similar to Kelseyâs at UL. Lots of wingâs, lots of stretch 4âs, a couple true PGâs and a couple true 5âs. Donât hate that rotation at all.
Iâm surprised nobody has brought this guy up yet. Quite an eye for talent. Decent-ish in game coach. Very adept at signing players Tony wanted. Only negative I can really think of is his weird off kilter mouth/jaw thing but we shouldnât hold that against him. Oh yeah, talking about scheyer.
I am preparing now for when we hear about the Keatts and Brownell interview rumors.
Iâve really missed wings.
