⦠Dai Dai, Donald Hand Jr, Andrew Rohde, Kaleb Banks, Thomas Haugh, David Punch and Bryce Lindsay off the bench
Look at this idiot poster
Donāt sell yourself short HnT.
Who is Kansasā richest alumni and how much poorer are they than Paul Tudor Jones?
No one can stop money man Paul
This guy, apparently:
Heās quite rich!
The trophy for who wins the MLS Cup is named after this dude too.
I didnāt know we had 19th century trusts anymore: controls railroads and energy companies???
In a lot of ways, this off-season will be more exciting than the season is.
Weāve discussed Otz at length I thinkā¦Iād be quite surprised if a guy who was an assistant at Iowa State for 3(!) different coaches there would be wanting to leave there now that heās got them with the elite teams.
Did anyone mention his wife is Australian? The down under pipeline would be epic again!
I always kinda wonder with Jerry ⦠is he incredibly naive ⦠or incredibly well sourced.
Like, he drops that a source says Otz is fantastic. Like what? Is this real life?
Is that the most stupidest and most banal source quote ever ? (Honestly where Iād bet) Or something meaningfulā¦
Tough to knowā¦
Like why do you need a source to say Otz is fantastic? What weird rule of journalism am I not following here?
Weird dude.
For real here: does Jerry know about espn.com? I mean, he must be aware of the AP poll, presumably. So Otzās record and success the last couple years is something he could just cite.** So why do the quote? Itās either a wink, or Jerry being weird.
Then you add in the Dex saga where Jerry was happy to be someoneās useful idiotā¦
** which to be fair, he then does
Edit - ok, not done raking Jerry over the coals. Is it a new name? Or a name rising on the list? Frankly, I donāt think either is correct. Heās at the top of the āthink about it for 5 secondsā list, and most (or at least me) would think heās highly implausible. But Jerry says both and theyāre not really internally consistent.
So we are left with - someone told Jerry something. And Iād really like to know what that something is, because what he wrote based on that something is incoherent. Could have been notable, or could be that Jerry personally just hadnāt considered Otz yetā¦
Itās an āinsiderā blog for casual fans.
I have trampled upon this lifeless equine on the Sabre before, but Jerry has never acknowledged (that I am aware) that he bought into and repeated Kās lie about Ralph playing the whole game in the 1983 ACC Tourney rout of Duke. For a guy who covered UVA and knew Terry Holland well, he should have at least looked into that claim instead of repeating it without hesitation.
Yeah good way to put it. One of my more casual fan friends sent it to me yesterday, and I had to explain the buyout situation to him and how this was extremely unlikely.
Like @haney said, the only real reporting in there was the āheās fantasticā quote⦠Which like⦠anyone who follows the sport knows? One of his twitter replies about the buyout is āCertainly an obstacleā⦠why donāt you do your job and do some reporting on how big of an obstacle that is to our admin???
If you closely read it, there is basically no information in there except TJ Otzelberger is a good coach.
I think there are legitimate gripes with Carla, but I also think a semi-significant portion of the hate she gets, especially from casual fans, stems from Jerryās wildly irresponsible coverage of the football coaching search.
I honestly think there are real insiders who use Jerry to put out the red herring candidates, knowing heāll buy the story.
I donāt think any of his ālistsā over the past 25 years have ever included which candidate UVa is zeroing in on.
In 1998, it was Barnes. In 2000, it was Sandusky. In 2009, it was Tubby. He never had Bennett or Bronco.
I suspect itās something like that. Yup
