šŸ€ Next Basketball Head Coach Speculation Thread

Yes, but they also probably got thrown a recruiting pitch of playing for a HOF HC for a couple of years. Things have changed since then, drastically.

LMAO.

Good to know you can get your Natty vacated, lay pipe to your equipment manager’s wife on the table of the area’s finest local Italian restaurant, pay for her abortion, and still be land in the green when it comes to morality.

Teams in the ACC in past years that have underachieved have not had a lot of player retention. I cant find my previous response where I went through the number of contributors retained by each ACC school who underachieved last year.

This UVA team has underachieved. Additionally, no one came to play for Ron. The odds that we retain anyone are not high (HGN has also pointed this out multiple times). The two year plan was tenuous when TB retired and stopped existing when this team lost to Cal and Stanford back to back.

Ron does not have as strong of a resume as the coaching candidates on our radar unless he can manage to win the ACCT.

You haven’t substantiated your defense of Ron with any data. As far as I understand, your defense of Ron is that the team is still playing hard and has improved from being bottom 3 in a bad ACC to being a mediocre team in a bad ACC, which are not strong arguments.

No. They haven’t changed drastically. Very little difference in Sanchez & Bennett ball. I’m sure they didn’t come to UVA just to touch the garment of St. Tony.

One thing I’ve learned about being wrong from discussions with people who have been wrong before, like @haney, is that voicing your incorrect opinion frequently doesn’t make you less wrong.

You have a very odd way of deciphering things. You don’t need a strong resume. What was Tom Izzo’s resume like when he took over at Michigan State.

You guys don’t know too many players or coaches in the biz do you?

So I would argue that Slick Rick Sr. needs to be a 10/10 on coaching resume scale. Say what you want about him (I’ve said plenty over the years..), but the man can flat out coach.

I think that’s exactly why a majority of guys have come to Virginia. But it’s obvious you’re not going to budge on this point, so no point in continuing this conversation.

This thread has turned into a giant circle of one dude making the most basic ass arguments and then accusing other people of not knowing what they’re talking about, which is some massive projection.

We get it.

If you don’t understand how a HOF coach leaving could change the perspective of a player from a retention standpoint I don’t know how to help you

The idea of kicking the can down the road while being content to play another (at least one more) lost season at the slowest pace in the nation with a Madam Tussaud wax statue wiuth the big whistle makes me almost literally feel physically ill.

I think it is basically reasonable to assume the loss of iMac, Cofie, and Buchanan to start. I would also guess Saunders is unlikely to stick around.

But honestly they are all free agents, and I expect most to hit the portal.

Sounds like Sharma is the only one we might be more likely than not to keep. (And Power if his deal runs through next year lol)

I don’t care about pace; I care about wins. Which is why I seldom complained about Tony Bennett — he brought us lots and lots of wins.

I complained about Pete because he brought us lots of losses, even with a fast pace.

Ron is combining losses with a slow pace. I want wins. Pace is a secondary factor.

Who do you think Tony Bennett feels would be the best for for the job?

Based on what? Have you spoken to any of the players, their family, or reps?

I don’t care. If he wanted to choose his successor, he should’ve been better from 2020-2024.

Trilly, HGN, recent history of the sport when other coaches have left.

For the record, Tu has stated that all players with exception of one want Ron to be the head coach.

FACTS

(He’s also beefing with the Women’s team. Or sounds like a players mom or something.)

Wasting your time. He’s the only one that can make future projections to support his arguments.
