My grandpa told me when I was a kid and wanted a Michael Jordan jersey ā€œYou’re a Hoyle, never where another person’s name on your backā€

And I’ve honored that ever since.

Not directly the same but the message is.

Ha. Thats fing awesome even if Hoyle is kinda a wack name.

This is, and is going to be, a shit show for the next month. I was looking forward to this spring and the naming of the new coach but damn, there’s a lot of work to do Carla.

I hope she is busting her butt to evaluate everything that is important and relevant in this search. Leave no stone unturned.

She has a great and rabid fan-base rooting for the next coach. Everyone is ready to cheer and celebrate, and although there will be subtle debate, don’t divide the fanbase with a massively questionable call.

Basically, don’t F it up, and make sure you solicit opinions from real basketball people. DO NOT go with your gut or your own opinion. And don’t outsource everything to a search firm. You don’t know enough and if you need to call @Hooandtrue he is available to meet.

Vet this and treat it like your job is on the line because it probably is.

I don’t know what you’re talking about. This is as fun as it gets. Just look at the advanced metrics.

An old pro in this line of work once told me drama is better for business than success. No doubt true. But there are limits. Especially when it’s drawn out drama…

The good news for your business is that the next head coach is going to suck. Much drama ensues. But yeah limits are going to get breached. That’s what I’m here for.

I am struggling with how Rick Pitino is categorized on those charts. He had hookers at a recruiting weekend (no, don’t tell me he didn’t know about it, that’s BS). He had a restaurant cleared out so he could perform polish a table with a woman while he was married.

Pitino doesn’t make the cut with me. Oh, and don’t get me started on Bruce Pearl. Seriously???

Damn this post was never going to go over well so I wrote this instead.

Now with what he’s showing at UNM, I think he has figured it out. Also plays a nice style of basketball.

Yes and yes.

Does Richard Pitino have to bear the sins of his father?

Hooandtrue has sent me down a rabbit hole of Donovan Dent highlights and I am convinced this kid could end up being Kyrie. His decision making and twitchy moves are quite unique in CBB today. I’m sure his height and frame are the knocks on him, but he has that Kyrie-esque fluidity to his game and the way he finishes at the basket.

Hope he isn’t packaged up at Miami with Baby Rick next season and just terrorizing the ACC

I think @Galileo24 was just referring to Rick not Richard

Was watching a recent video that showed our facilities. Clearly the culture Tony built is physically displayed throughout our basketball facilities (aka you can see the 5 pillars everywhere).

Assuming we do hire a new head coach, how do we think he will handle that? Obviously there’s the high level objective of taking the best of what made the program great and adding his own perspective to it but does that mean we’d effectively erase references to the 5 pillars? I would hope not.
