šŸ€ Next Basketball Head Coach Speculation Thread

Ok, I’ve narrowed down the search to a few candidates, any of whom would be a much better choice than Ron. Lmk your thoughts.

I give Sanchez credit for not letting it snowball into apathy, which often happens in these situations. But that’s not nearly enough. There would need to be something really special happen from here for him to get the job.

There’s definitely a lot of sympathy for him…people who do matter rooting hard. And winning a few games gives s glimmer of hope, so that gets played up. Just my 2 cents. Not impossible, just pretty unlikely.

I’m sort of ambivalent on the Ron question (leaning against), but I get the argument that this season is a tough draw for Ron. That being said, one thing that is almost purely coaching is fluency in a defensive system. Not sure that we’ve made any strides in that area this season (except for ARob?). We’re gonna get beat, but we should be in the right positions when it happens.

Look at Purdue and marquettes rosters. It’s all high school recruits. 75% of UConn’s title rosters were high school recruits. It’s very possible…and the proven path to a title.

I just don’t see the names being mentioned to be super impressive. I think Odom has won 1 tourney game total.

That’s one more than Ron. And we played stubbornly tonight. Almost no adjustments and zero wrinkles to throw them off.

Thats one more than Otzelberger Kelsey and Pope combined before their current gigs

True.

Are you paid to post contrarian thoughts? Tony wasn’t a winner? Jesus

He’s never made the NCAAT in his first year in any of his D-1 stops. CIT and NIT (twice).

Is that right? There were far more Duke fans at JPJ tonight than there have been at any game there since 2012.

The folks I’ve shared a row with for a decade have been selling their tickets for every game since New Year’s. I’ve had different people in front of me and to the right and left every game.

It’s just my observation, but something’s different in our fans’ attitude w/r/t to showing up. It’s not good.

I think he was referring to the players, not the fans.

Echo most of the feelings on the board last night. I just don’t see a compelling reason to hand Ron the job. He had tough circumstances and the best case for it is just to give him a chance for a full year, but you can’t take a one year waiver on a coach. There has been some improvement but most of that seems to be mirage that is related to who we played. At no time this year have we shown we can be competitive with a good team. Ron is running out of opportunities in that regard. Clemson is about the last chance.

His VCU team this year would be at worst 3rd in the ACC. I think with a UVA NIL budget he’d be at least a bubble team next year.

Even his first year VCU team was a mere 7 points away from making the tournament.

I think Ron lost his chance at this job when he went belly-up in the Bahamas.

And if not then, then during the 5-game losing streak in January.

And if not then, then with the terrible home loss to the Hokies.

Are wins against two teams hovering around the top-50 enough to earn this job? If it is, then this job is being woefully undervalued by the decision-makers.

Ron it back? Are you fucking kidding?
