Sorry, but this is factually inaccurate. Carolina Sucks. But Fuck Duke.
I wonder if Richard and Rick would want to coach in the same conference.
I tend to agree, Richard Pitino has a compelling case for the job.
If Rich was hired at least we’d still get to see Elijah play once a year in the annual father/son game.
They’ve coached against each other before. I think they actually voluntarily scheduled each other at least once.
Yeah this year, and then Rick got mad at the St John’s fans for chanting “Who’s your daddy” at Richard.
I mean. Is literally best chant for the ocassion
Pitino makes me a little nervous (could have a wandering eye for better jobs, a little concerned about his offensive scheme from my very limited knowledge of him), but I definitely think he’d be more fun than a lot of our candidates, and I think his ceiling is pretty high.
I think his value is more in talent accumulation rather than pure Xs and Os.
Both Byington (at Kentucky) and Odom (vs UMass) are in action tonight
Not excited at all about Richard Pitino.
Three tournaments. 12 years. 1 tournament win. His offense and defense are all over the place, which tells me his success is much more about whatever players he has than anything in particular he’s doing or scheming. He hasn’t had a season under 10 losses.
Gillen level hire.
Moser lost 2 dudes who are starting at Houston and Kentucky this year as Oklahoma couldn’t afford them … hard to tell how good Moser would be in a competitive NIL spot.
I at least see steady progress and Odom also has one tourney win, and coaching at places much more resource poor.
I’m not over the moon about Odom either.
Odom is for the second time improving a mid level team markedly in Year 2. That’s a good sign. But in the RIB camp, yeah, none of these candidates are terribly exciting
I think both are very important, but I think I want my basketball head coach to lean more towards the X’s and O’s side. Finding (and keeping) assistants that can recruit is easier than finding (and keeping) the good X’s and O’s guys, and talent will come to the good basketball minds if they establish enough of a track record.
@zh00s I don’t know man… as time passes some of those Minnesota T-ranks actually look kind of impressive. Inconsistent sure, but having them in the top 50 four times isn’t too shabby.
I am agreeing with you (I think)
Basically just saying that odom doesn’t look that different and has had fewer resources, bags, and time.
Eh I don’t know. A quarter of his time there they were 100+. And one season 200+! How does that happen three years in?!
I think the case for Pitino is all in potential, he’s doing well this year but was too young at Minnesota ( a top 5 ish hardest job in power hoops), has found talent everywhere he’s been, and would have NIL and the swagger to get big fish at UVA. Being Rick’s son, I could see him quickly becoming one of the darling coaches of CBB and a very hot place for kids to go
Yeah definitely some disaster seasons in there, but that’s a really hard job. Ben Johnson hasn’t come close to top 50, let alone top 30 since, so intrigued by the ceiling.
He’s not my top choice, but I could certainly talk myself into him.
Jerrod Calhoun and get Anthony Soloman as one of his assistant coaches and even interview Sanchez or another opening.
Calhoun’s Xs and Os + elite recruiting = boom boom boom boom boom
