Is Kirk Penney responsible for Wisconsin’s offense?
I honestly have no idea, but I’m still going to confidently answer yes.
You know, I’d really like for us to be the type of program that tracks deflections and posts the stat live via dry erase board on the bench during the game. Kinda corny, but I absolutely love that shit.
Weird night of basketball. BC boat racing VT, BYU up 30 (thirty!) on Kansas, other stuff. I need to go to bed.
I’ve watched BYU more than a few times this year. They’re the type of team that can go on a wild run in a tourney setting. They just have that look to me lol.
They clearly had a team soak last night.
Richie P might just have that magic touch when it comes to assembling a team in the free transfer era. He certainly has “the eye.”
Failing to see why this matters?
Tonje never played at New Mexico and Toppin transferred.
The new reality of college basketball is that it’s fluid — even for a Pitino.
For a few hours we thought we had a team with Gertude, McKneely, and Knueppel — until we …. didn’t.
The point is that Pitino got all of those guys to (at minimum) commit to New Mexico. Presumably if he were at a program with more prestige and NIL firepower, he would have had a chance at retaining guys like Tonje and/or Toppin. If that UNM squad stuck together they might be the best team in the country. Clearly Pitino is doing something right when it comes to identifying talent.
99% of the posts on here are speculation about what could have been or what will be. Why single this one out?
Should we be on Self retirement watch and whatever ripple effects that brings?
He’s only 62, and looks pretty good, though he did have a heart procedure two years ago. He’s having one disappointing season, but he did win a title just 3 years ago. I wonder how much the Big XII will suffer the same challenges the ACC does as money coalesces in the B1G and SEC, and if he feels that will limit him in a way it didn’t before.
That said, I don’t think anyone is rationally calling for his head at this point, and he’s got a few more years in him if he wants it.
There’s no team or coach I trust blindly to put together a competitor than Bill Self. There is a top 5 slot reserved for Kansas on my preseason rankings every year, he just reloads no matter what he loses
Exactly this. He’s finding talent left and right, at a clip as good or better than anyone in the country. Identifying both Tonje and Toppin on top of the top-25 team he successfully assembled at New Mexico bodes extremely well for the projection of team-building at a legit P4.
Also, Tony never got Knueppel to commit. And you can’t compare anyone on our roster to Tonje, Toppin, Joseph, or Dent.
Im willing to concede Pitinos Minnesota debacle came too early for him as a coach and he has now matured and coud lead a major program. Definitely would have a good mentor in his father behind him. I like him better then most of our candidates.
“UVA basketball, where the sons of coaching royalty become legends in their own right”
Imagine the camera panning to a luxury box during a timeout where Dick Bennett, Tony Bennett, and Rick Pitino all chat together watching Richard Pitino lead a Top 10 UVA squad.
I expect competition for Pitino to be pretty serious. I think he’d be very interested in our job but Villanova and Miami could appeal to him too. I doubt Indiana pursues him but we’ll see.
