This is true. I also think Collins is missing the New Mexico piece of his resume. If he left NW or got fired and went to Davidson and had them top 40 in KenPom sitting atop the A10, I think weād feel differently about him.
I do think age is a factor too. Pitino was 30 when hired at Minnesota some some of his results make sense in that context. I donāt think the comparison is a terrible one, though. Collinsās resume is better than I realized, itās just a little harder to see the upside than with Pitino.

New Mexico and Utah State tied with exactly the same SRS today - 40th in nation.
Only 2 non majors ahead of them are Gonzaga and St Maryās - both of whose schedules were boosted by 4 games with Oregon State and Washington state

I also think it would be weird for anyone involved with the university in any official capacity to say anything about Ron other than āhe has a shot at the job and weāre rooting for him.ā The Ron part of this feels no different than generic public posturing.
