There is a huge facet to this as well. Some people are just unbleievable at interviewing. When they sit down with UVa decision makers they have a real chance to be impressive and kinda show out; body language, energy, and smarts or whatever. Bigger than just āi believe in defenseā or whatever
My guess without knowing anything is that Sean and Archie Miller are GREAT at interviewing
I watched a pod thing with Archie talking about UVa and Tony Bennet⦠and he was downright impressive
I doubt he could meaning knew there was no Chance
Have made the same assumption about Mick Cronin for years as well.
And on the flip side, some guys are awful interviewers. Itās not basketball but that sentiment was said about Bud Foster for decades, that he just sucked at interviewing for head jobs.
He offered him.
When Congressional bill is passed the cap will be in effect for total AD spend. Saving on coaches salary doesnāt translate into more NIL to spend. Would free up money to spend in other ways within AD. NIL deals have to be legit and pass audit from accounting firm. Canāt come from AD.
He won the 2nd and 3rd most games in a season in Minnesota program history.
True. But he also only managed a 36% conference win rate in all his seasons at Minnesota. Iām not exactly blown away, even if it is a hard place to win.
If you believe that the NCAA will competently administer an audit through a third party that actually has teeth and prevents ācapā circumvention, I have a bridge to sell you.
Administrators at schools will still need to raise and direct funds around, often not through the athletic foundation or school itself, for maximum impact.
This is where looking strictly at analytics is just baffling to me. Rich was young young. He had just had a really good year at Florida whatever University. He got the Minnesota job in the frozen tubdra and play in a barn. I watched his team some and they were tough. Had a great PG who either got hurt, transferred, or declared.
Also other things happened not really in his control and now he looks pretty good
- Odom
- Lilā Richard
He has to be one if not the youngest P5 head coaches ever. 30 years old! And he did about as good of a job as Tubby Smith did. And now heās becoming one of the most successful UNM coaches in decades.
Tie
Agreed. And these are the two guys Iāve focused in on.
As if Iām running the search committee or something.
Pitino was 141-123 at Minnesota.
For comp sake, Chris Collins is 191-187 at a program thatās probably more difficult to win at than Minnesota. Thereās no universe Collins is considered.
I do not trust the inconsistency that showed at Minnesota is gonna remedy itself because of four years at New Mexico.
In any event I just texted Chris C but totally unrelated
Just getting home from work and a client dinner. There is lots to catch up on in Forum.
But my biggest question is ā¦. where the heck is @HoopinHoos after the beatdown we just took? He was very vocal before this game and he has gone Seal Team 6 sniper-quiet after we got Donkey-Punched by Duke at home, and had one of the worst game plans ever.
But I guess itās a āno-brainerā to hire Ron. And before you say that one game doesnāt dictate a decision, I would argue itās a heck of a lot more than one game.
Just wondering where you are - and for the record, we disagree on the fact that all of the early 90ās teams were āirrelevantā.
Have a great summer.
What if I told you we live in a world where the early 90s Hoos were amazing and an important piece of the Virginia Hoops legacy AND Ron is the right choice for the Hoos?
I know this to be true because the have said it to be. The 49th verse of the sacred scroll told us this shall come to be.
Furthermore in chapter 39 vers 22 it warns us of false idols "Beware of the beast Pitino for he is evil and capable of nothing but destruction "
So Pintino is the coach version of a Pinto?
Is that like the Mormon magic golden plates?
