šŸ€ Next Basketball Head Coach Speculation Thread

We slow played him for years, regardless of offer, Tony didn’t like his fit. We easily could have kicked him up very early if we pushed.

DMV is full of transplant families that don’t have deep roots in the area (obviously not all, but plenty…and not just the players but the people they’re surrounded by). It’s also super conveniently located to so many legitimate options that I don’t think UVA will ever be able to consistently rely on any sort of a pipeline. There’s multiple airports nearby where they could be at most SEC or B1G schools just as quick as they could drive to Cville. They only way you start pulling DMV guys consistently is to hire an AAU coach, which we shouldn’t do.

If we’re looking for positives, kids who grew up during our 14-19 peak and became fans are now about 14 to 20ish years old. The younger ones who watched us win a championship when they were 8 or 10 years old are starting to get recruited by us.

Especially for you. So many emotions, so frequently expressed, for the last 3 weeks or so anyway.

We couldn’t have.

Once the Duke offer came, he was gone. He held out for a Carolina offer that never came.

ha I really struck a nerve with my movie theater joke from yesterday. Bro literally singled out 1 phrase from my 2-paragraph post just so he could be like ā€œyou’re emotional!!ā€

Soon enough, maybe right now, you’ll see that he only posts something serious once every 2 months. And it tends to be really good. But in the meantime you gotta sift through the bit he’s doing.

WFS is the town grump. Best to not engage when you’re in his crosshairs

That would be the Terry Holland run from 1981 1990.
Final 4 and 13 point loss to a crazy good game by a UNC dude scoring 39 when he averaged 18.
Came back to win the 3rd place game though and became the answer to a trivia question …. Hoo was the last team to win their last madness game in a season and not be Champs.
Ok that was weird.
2 point loss to UAB in their gym and very homer officiating…
Ok that was weird
Elite 8 loss to Valvano miracles
Kinda weird
Great Final 4 run - could have won vs big favorite Houston - lost by 2 - Carlisle couldn’t make a shot
Lost by 4 to DePaul in first round 5/12 upset - couldn’t make free throws
Lost by 4 to Wyoming - another 5/12 upset
Weird same thing happened again
Elite 8 run - lost to Michigan by 37
Ok super weird - Michigans other 5 wins were all by single digits.
Note - Glen Rice had maybe one of the most underrated seasons in college history that year
Averaged 26 points on 58% shooting and 52% Three Point shooting
Lost by 2 in 2nd round to Syracuse- Cuse shot 80% on FT that day when they averaged 64.7%
Ok weird

Virginia
Out: Ron Sanchez In: TBD
Though Virginia hasn’t officially moved on from Sanchez – he’s been the interim after Tony Bennett’s abrupt retirement in October – it’s only a matter of time. Sources said a search firm working on behalf of Virginia has been in touch with multiple candidates. One of them is local and obvious: VCU coach Ryan Odom. The Rams are atop the A-10, and Odom’s father Dave coached in the league (Wake Forest and Virginia for more than 20 years). He’s not the only one in play here, though. Richard Pitino is one to watch, especially given the outstanding job he’s done at New Mexico this season. I’m told UVa expects to have around $7 million to provide in NIL and anticipated revenue sharing for the 2025-26 season.

Wasn’t there a missed foul call late in the Houston game against Akeem?

Thanks for the PTSD…

If you are talking about the blatant flagrant foul when he bowed Polynice in the throat at half court yeah that one.

Can anyone put this in greater context? Where would this put us in the ACC and nationally?

Also is that $7 mil school revenue sharing + third party NIL or just school? It kinda seems like it’s school+third party from the description, but people are imprecise sometimes with how they report this.

Reads like revenue sharing plus, which, assuming football gets the lion share of the 20mil, probably puts us around 10-12mil to put a roster together. I’d imagine that’s top third of the league.

I read that as $7m between NIL and Rev share, so that is the total number for the roster.

NIL numbers are going up like crazy but I don’t think there’s a team in the country that spends $10M…and only a handful that top $7M. Don’t mistake what’s available for what’s spent. You need to be able to attract players worth spending on.

That would make me think we’re in a pretty competitive place though?
