Cannot stand him. Goal post moving extraordinaire. You make one point and he changes the whole argument to try and make you seem like an idiot and he’s above it all.
His favorite is that we can’t judge coaches because we don’t know what else is going on behind the scenes meanwhile this does not apply to any of his opinions.

Mikey was also totally off about Tony Bennett when he was hired (credited everything TB did at WSU to Dick Bennett). I’m not worried about his perspective.

An invaluable source of information with regards to the ins and outs of the UVA athletic department that unfortunately can’t help himself but be a complete prick about it sometimes.
Seriously if you can’t give one fuckin example of a coach that you’d like to see UVA hire without going into some pretentious ass diatribe then why even engage in a discussion about it.

Back when I read more of his writing, I got the impression he was more of a football fan than a hoops fan. Which is basically why he won’t engage with the “who” question. He doesn’t know the landscape never mind things like recent hiring patterns.

I don’t dislike Mikey, even with my gripes. I understand at his core he’s a diehard UVA fan who wants to defend his university.
But he does make it hard sometimes lol.

There is more anti-Odom sentiment out there than I expected. Figured people would be pretty happy with it.
I kind of see him as the top candidate that you’d expect to make a move. Others (Shaka, Byington) might make moves, but they very well might not, and Odom has the best resume of those that will definitely be coaching a new team next year imo. It’s a good hire!

- won at least 5 NCAA championships in a row
- won… let’s say 80 straight games

I expect a fair amount of anti-Odom sentiment. I feel like it will basically match what we’ve seen in this thread.
Initial negative reaction bc of (1) UMBC, (2) VCU, and (3) generalized feeling that we should do better because they generally don’t pay attention to the carousel. #3 is solvable.
And look, everyone will rally at some point, and it will depend on how good he does

Even the AD at KY can’t pick and choose a coach. Isn’t their current coach less successful historically than coach Odom?

It’s honestly pretty close! Which I take as a good sign, I like Mark Pope! Odom has a tourney win and Pope doesn’t though, as painful as that win is for us.

Understood. I am fine with the Coach Odom. He would not be my first choice. Instead I would be looking for a coach that has HOF potential with the Drake coach being the prime target. But full steam ahead and hope for the best.

I get this. I don’t prefer McCollum, but at least you can do compare / contrast with an actual person.
I’d prefer Shaka to Odom, so I’m no Odom absolutist. Heck, I’d probably flip a coin between Pitino and Odom (and weight that coin 50.1% for Odom).
