šŸ€ Next Basketball Head Coach Speculation Thread

I decline to answer. I will continue to hope UVa wins every game and continues to be good in the medium and long term.

At those odds, I’d take the Field all day.

I don’t see these odds actually bettable anywhere. I was going to dump a lot on the field at those odds. Only reference for them is from a sketchy article on October 18, right after the announcement. I assume those odds were for the immediate aftermath/interim odds and aren’t very relevant now.

have to be crazy but to take anything but the field. Especially if Ryan Odom wants the job as bad as the rumors suggest.

i would gladly take odom to

Yeah… seems like a quick reaction odds put up… but not by any betting services.

Give me odds that Ron (or Jay) are named head coach during this season and way before March

There’s rumors that he actually wants the job? I’ve only heard speculation that we may look at him, haven’t heard anything about mutual interest.

At this point Jay getting the nod would be kind of… strange? Idk just seems like it wouldn’t happen to me. Would love him to get the opportunity if it presented itself but I kind of think this is continuation of CTB ways or not…

Fresh you seem confident one of those guys get the job. I know you don’t know anything from within the program so are you thinking we have a pretty good season or that we are just not in a great position to make another hire. Just curious. Villanova gave me hope but I need to see more to get the warm and fuzzies about this team.

I voted for JWilly for obvious reasons. But it would be unusual.

JWilly is not getting a shot IMO if it doesn’t work out for Ron. The only internal option is Ron at this point. And I am cautiously optimistic based on how I see him managing the subs and the gameplan.

He can’t recruit and doesn’t have a record or developing big men. If anything he’s been disappointing.

If we go 2-0 this week, it’s the Ronchez Era

1-1, cautiously optimistic to see how the season goes

0-2, gonna need to see that ACC win streak in January/February to have a shot to sway over the important @Hooandtrue vote.

Yeah, I say this not at all negatively, but what would be the argument for hiring JWilly? He’s been here a long time and is well liked? That is great, but we are a top level P5 team. There’d need to be more (e.g. well established reputation as a great recruiter, great schemer, great talent developer, etc).

What rumors?

I just think it makes sense. Say if Ron was still at Charlotte and doing good he would be on the list as an ā€œoutsiderā€ anyway. Aside from seeing no real home runs that we could hire I think it would be very strong move to stay with what we have in the TB lineage

I think the season is gonna be challenging however BUT I like this group of players AND staff much more than I anticipated pre season

Hire Ron (or Jay)!

Cause Jay is cool as hell and a Wahoo for Life and played with Hav

Well that is technically an argument, ha.

I’ve been extremely underwhelmed since the 4-13 upset in 2021. A national championship program recruiting at the level we were recruiting and performing in the postseason at the level we were performing? Didn’t love it.

To continue the lineage and get the aforementioned ā€œwarm fuzzies,ā€ I’d need to see Ronchez as being an upgraded/modernized version of Tony. Tony Bennett 2.0 (probably minus the non-basketball goodness that so many love Tony for.) It looks pretty good so far this season, but it is still extremely early. This weekend will tell us a lot.

Meanwhile, a national search and a program reset would excite me very much. Build a new identity, but with the heft earned from a recent natty? Sounds awesome. Sounds like a lot of fun.

So if I’m voting (I’m not), I would choose to hire from outside.

Nothing against Ron or JWilly, just… a change could be really nice.

Also, I’ve had my fill of slow-paced rockfights on the basketball court and scores in the 50s. I love the fact that we’ve had an ethos, I just hate the actual ethos itself.
