Lucky you. I’m a Steelers fan and am in hell right now. My sports teams are just so bad but it’s what I sold my soul for back in 2019

Well Redskins/Commanders fans have been in hell the last quarter century or so.

But there is hopefully hope. New ownership, new GM, new coach, draft pick to get the franchise QB, a bunch of draft picks, and a mountain of cap space in free agency.

There is so much joy and optimism here. And it is snowing in Charlottesville, so there is that.

For me, this is just a pattern analysis question.

I don’t even know what he means here at all. Those comments are completely benign to me and seems to plainly state a situation.

Pure nonsense. You remind me of the football fans who said it was time for George Welsh to leave because we needed a coach to take us to the “next level”. Well, the football program made it to another level after he left.

In my view, it isn’t a question of adapting to changes in college basketball. Simply put, Coach Bennett’s schemes demand experience and continuity. Virginia lacks those at the moment. My personal view is that it is due to two (maybe, three) recruiting classes, and much of that was unavoidable. On the surface, the 2019 & 2020 classes look fine. Especially, the 2019 class as all the premature attrition couldn’t have been predicted. I don’t think either Guy or Jerome leave without the national championship. At the time of their signing LOIs, Morsell, Shedrick, & Abdur-Rahim all appeared to be just what the program needed. However, as far as this year is concerned, it is the 2021 class that is an issue. And, there wasn’t much the staff could do about that. Live evaluations weren’t permitted in the summer of 2020. Trey Kaufman and his mom even came to Charlottesville on their own, but couldn’t have contact with anyone connected to the program. Virginia ends up with two foreign players, and one of those leaves. Essentially, UVa has two upperclassmen (recruited as frosh) and only one had extensive playing experience at Virginia. Continuity and experience are missing. Hopefully, the staff can minimize any premature attrition this spring. There’s a lot of very good young talent on the squad. They just need to grow into their roles. And, as has been noted earlier in this thread, Virginia hasn’t been reduced to the status of a cellar dweller. They shared the regular season championship last year. As I said, nonsense!!!

Jerome had been getting draft buzz since the summer before the season and had been rising on draft boards all that season. He was gone regardless of the outcome of the season as long as he had a solid 1st round projection (which he did).

Guy just seemed antsy to go, but maybe he stays another year under different circumstances. I got the impression that he just wanted to start his pro career.

As I recall, that Summer before his JR year, he had a great showing at the CP3 PG camp, which got the draft buzz going.

While that’s true, I don’t believe he would have reached first round status without the NCAA title. IMO, that was the motivation to enter the draft. The notion that he couldn’t push it higher. If Purdue had won the regional, I suspect Jerome would have returned to try to increase his stock. Furthermore, the recruiting for the 2019 class was well over and done before any of this took place. During the recruiting periods for that class, I imagine most prospects still assumed that Guy and Jerome would be returning.

What Ty did in the NCAA tourney for sure solidified his place in the draft and am sure bumped him a few slots up. But he was definitely going to the draft no matter what after 19

Ty had enough pre-season draft love that he had to go when the opportunity appeared. KG was the casualty of the championship. He was simply too hot to not strike after the season. Timing can be so crucial in these situations. Don’t wanna stick around that extra year, because sometimes even if you do everything right it just doesn’t work out. See Reece.

I don’t have enough first hand knowledge to argue the point. So I won’t. You’re probably right. The salient point remains that none of this was widely known during the critical points in the recruitment of the 2019 class. I suspect most prospects in the spring and early summer of 2018 assumed that both Guy and Jerome would return.

Ah well thats true. I hadnt considered your actual point which was recruiting. My bad

The Steelers have one of the best operations in the NFL. They’ll be back. They need to get their QB situation worked out and they’ll be right there.

Hopefully for you Washington fans, they will put in place someone to run their football operation who knows what they’re doing. The first thing a NFL owner should do is hire the best minds to run the show, and then the second thing he should do is butt out. Focus on PR, focus on improving the facilities and the fan experience, but let the experts run the football operation.

New GM is coming from the 49’ers, so that’s a good start. That said, the bar isn’t super high to clear given how the organization has run the entire 21st century.

The 49ers probably have the best operation in the NFL so that’s a good place to get a GM.
