Corrected the link above⦠oops.
I love this! I grew up a military brat, so I like anything that proudly represents our military and veterans.
Didnāt know where to put this, so putting it here. For (1) the Top 10 KenPom teams, plus (2) any team with multiple players on the list, with at least one in the top 30, plus (3) UNC (since they didnāt fit the other criteria), here are the players on Vecenieās most recent top 100 big board:
#1 - Houston - 1 player / #37 (and not even a starter)
#2 - Purdue - 1 player / #35
#3 - UConn - 5 players / #11, 13, 47, 66, 71
#4 - Zona - 2 players / #50, 95
#5 - Marquette - 3 players / #12, 26, 95
#6 - BYU - 0 players
#7 - Baylor - 3 players / #7, 42, 98
#8 - Creighton - 3 players / #17, 54, 56
#9 - Tenn. - 1 player / #16
#10 - Zags - 0 players
#12 - Kansas - 1 player / #27
#15 - UNC - 2 players / #43, 55
#19 - ā ā ā ā ā ā ā ā ā - 3 players / #19, 23, 89
#21 - Kentucky - 7 players / #6, 14, 15, 32, 44, 64, 73
#22 - UVa - 2 players / #10, 78
#30 - Colorado - 2 players / #5, 31
#35 - USC - 2 players / #1, 20 (neither of whom are Bronny)
#42 - UCLA - 3 players / #24, 49, 75
Takeaways:
- Not enough talent to win the natty (probably): Houston, Purdue (
), BYU, Tenn., Zags, Kansas (
) - Not being given enough credit for ability to make a deep run, but also no guarantee (see Michigan last year) - UCLA, USC, Baylor (maybe Baylor is being given enough credit), Colorado
- Not being given enough credit as the two teams most likely win it all: Kentucky and UConn (in that order)
- This really speaks to the problem with ā ā ā ā ā ā ā ā ā . Only Flip has lived up to preseason promise so far. Proctor a bit disappointing. Mitchell VERY disappointing. And none of the frosh have popped (Sam Vās rule is to list frosh only if theyād be in his top 50, which means no ā ā ā ā ā ā ā ā ā frosh is in his top 50)
Are you saying Kentucky is getting less credit than UConn or is more likely to win the title than UConn?
KY slightly better odds IMO. Not sure whoās getting better odds (per fanduel, UConn 3rd, and KY in a 3-way tie for 9th)
We will be at Wake getting rowdy
Same. Parents coming to take my kids for the day so the wife and I can get to Winston early and enjoy a fun and rowdy day
Spent 7+ years as an associate with Booz Allen Hamilton and itās scary how true that skit is. Right down to taking buckets of Saudi money while preaching about how ethical the company is. So glad to be out of that cult.
Think you are forgetting the top 20 in both KenPom offense and defense factor. UConn is already there. Kentucky has some work to do defensively. Combining the āfuture NBA playersā and 20/20 criteria Iād say the current favorites are UConn and Marquette
I came close to becoming a Boozer in the 90ās. I spent my consulting career with AMS and then Cap Gemini before getting a real job in 2008. I donāt miss flying every week.
Fair, but I think we need to see what KY looks like with the bigs back playing and with them and the other youngsters having some time to gel. Generally, with Cal, I wouldnāt worry about defense. Heās tended to have very good defenses. Not quite as good as Tony, but close (and better the last few years). (Actually, just looked this up, and turns out Iām wrong. Oh well. But still, letās check in on their defense in a few weeks)
Random thought on Vecenieās top 100 big board: London Johnson is nowhere to be found. This whole saga with him has been kinda wild. So many questions⦠but my current biggest is what the heck was Ignite thinking giving him a million plus? One of the things Iāve heard about other Ignite prospects is how itās hard to evaluate them without a decent PG running things⦠Bizarroā¦
London Johnson

Funny storyā¦
Damn took me the last hour to remember why that name was familiar and the whole story just came flooding back to me.
Iām fine with waiting but I didnāt call them one of the title favorites lol my prediction is getting their bigs back will disrupt this new fun offense theyāve been running. Cause Cal to revert to his typical early 2000ās style. Theyāll end up somewhere like 18th in defense and 35th in offense. But maybe Sheppard is so good that doesnāt happen
Wow, small world, I was at BAH in NYC in late 90s.
but my current biggest is what the heck was Ignite thinking giving him a million plus?
Yes, 100%. I think it was a mistake for him to take the money instead of going to college, but I absolutely understand why he did it. Especially given that it was before (even if only barely) NIL became a thing, it was a pretty reasonable decision to make.
On the other hand, Ignite picking a random 4-star PG and offering him THAT much money still makes no sense at all. Clearly, someone there saw him play and thought Mr Funny Story was going to be a huge star and locking him up was a major opportunity. A thought that, so far, has turned out to be wrong, to everyoneās detriment including Ignite.
