The following guys are the top 5 of something, in this order. What is the ā€œsomethingā€ ?

  1. Kevin Braswell
  2. Tate Armstrong
  3. Calvin Natt
  4. Sam Perkins
  5. Mike Pegues (shoutout @AdventiveQuasar )

Answer: top 5 opponent scorers (single game) at UHall

Since 2011 every NCAA Champion has had at least 1 player drafted in the NBA the same year.
Only 2018 Villanova and 2012 Kentucky had more than 2019 Virginia.

Interesting thread about GG.

Seems like folks are really into ā€œgamingā€ the age/school issue right now. Jarin and GG going early. Lots of prospects staying back a year. Blame Malcolm Gladwell, I guess.

Tangentially related I guess, but watched GG score a career high 23 pts for the Grizzlies last night

Yeah, I think that’s what inspired the tweets, specifically this interview:

This stuff is absurd and inane and extremely dumb. I’ve made friends with people I worked with and even former bosses. Others, I’ve lost touch with.

Also, it’s always been a transactional relationship! These guys are just whinging and whining because now that transaction is taking place on a slightly more level playing field.

Also, WTF? ā€œWhere do they say they graduated from?ā€ Big brain Geno, if you think about this one for a hot minute, you might get this one yourself… maybe — just maybe — it’s the school that gives them a degree.

One more, and I’ll stop. It’s the wacky mental image these guys have of themselves that gets to me. I always thought of Geno as a really awesome women’s hoops coach who, every year, tried to get the best HS female players into his program and win as much as possible. And that was fun for the fans, and good for UConn, and good for the players who went there. Like, if they were rally super awesome, they could go to Russia and make serious bank playing for some Russian minerals oligarch. Everyone wins!

But it turns out Geno was really just in the relationship building business all this time, and it just happened that relationships with the best female hoops players is most rewarding, I guess.

Guess what the periods represent:

Period 1 = 1 / 12 / 1
Period 2 = 36 / 81 / 9

Period 1 = Torvik overall / offense / defense efficiency ranks- 13-14 season through 18-19 season (out of 350+)
Period 2 = Torvik overall / offense / defense efficiency - 19-20 season through Wake game (out of 350+)

My takeaway: the offense is broken (uncontroversial), and it’s been broken (perhaps not as widely held; feels to me like what’s going on offensively this year isn’t seen as much in the longer context)

It’s why I don’t lend as much credence to the ā€œit’s the personnelā€ argument. We had an abysmal offense in 2019-2020 with an entirely different set of personnel. And that personnel was very experienced
