They were really good.

Side note - that was first CD I ever bought with the parental advisory sticker on it

Coming home from work today, and heard “Rocket Queen” — a great effing song but also a killer closer to “Appetite for Destruction”

Which got me thinking: What are the best album closers in modern — post-1960 — music?

Off the top of my head, I’d put “Rocket Queen” up there. And for me: Probably “Rock n Roll Suicide” (“Ziggy Stardust”), “Moonlight Mile” (“Sticky Fingers”), the end medley on “Abbey Road,” “Purple Rain” (closer on its own album), and
. “Bitches Ain’t Shit” (“The Chronic”).

Oh damn. Steve Cropper died. I’m sure there are more famous songs, but this is the one I’ll always remember him for.

Another great loss for the music world. Last night the incomparable Raul Malo, lead vocalist of the Mavericks, died due to cancer. He was an incredible talent and songwriter, but also an amazingly good person. If you have ever been to a Mavericks concert, you know what a joy it was to see him and his mates perform. We will miss you Raul.

Oh man, that’s awful - he had such an amazing voice. My little band plays the Mavericks’ version of Here Comes My Baby.

Oh no! I just saw the Mavericks in June, and Raul sounded great. I had no idea he was sick. The Mavericks were on the bill for Tedeschi Trucks Band’s Sun, Sand & Soul weekend in April 2026. I was considering the trip in part because I wanted to hear Raul’s voice again. What a loss.
