So Willard’s career path is NBA assistant to assistant at upper tier CUSA school (when CUSA was still a multi-bid conference) to head coach at top tier MAAC to HC at a lower tier Big East school to HC at lower-mid Big Ten school to HC at top tier Big East school. Wouldn’t be surprised if Villanova isn’t his last job. The Big East next year with him, both Pitinos, Hurley, Shaka, Matta, McDermott, Cooley, English, Holtmann, Holloway. That should be fun.

A year younger than Odom, both sons of college coaches. He got his first job cause his dad worked under Pitino. Odom got his first GA job cause his dad coached with Seth Greenberg at Virginia and his first assistant job cause Larry Davis coached under his dad at Wake.

Huh, I wonder if almost every coach who is the son of a coach got their first job either working for their dad or a guy who once worked with their dad. Tony Bennett worked for his dad. Richard Pitino was hired by Tom Herrion who’s older brother Bill worked for John Kuester who worked for Rick Pitino at BU. Phil Martelli Jr., I can’t find a tie between Sr. and Howie Dickenman or Jim Calhoun except they all coached forever.

Yeah. But I mean, what parent wouldn’t cash in favors to help their kids out. If my kids go into a field where I know people, I’m at least trying to get their resume to the top of the pile of internship applicants. From there it’s up to them.
