That should end up a great pickup for Wake. I wasn’t much of an Efton fan out of high school just because I thought he was several years away from being a really good college player and wasn’t sure he’d stick around long enough to get there. But after two years and two transfers, you’ve gotta think he’s settled in to stay and get his degree at this point. He’s still a really talented guy.

Wake should be really talented next year, and might compete for a top 4 spot in the conference. Would be a disappointment for them if they don’t at least make the tourney.

Felt bad for Efton. And his family. They were getting terrible advice and his mother was a bit lost in all of it. She didn’t understand how the recruitment game was played and they got manipulated pretty bad.
I had a friend who randomly had Efton’s mom as an Uber driver when he was a junior in high school. They chatted it up on the ride, my buddy said he was a UVA fan, she mentioned her son was Efton…they became kind of friends.
Some of the stuff she would ask him was pretty wild. People trying to get involved in his recruitment. Pulling him this way and that. It was pretty eye opening. Recruits without a strong support system get completely taken advantage of in the current system based on what I saw with him.
Seems like a nice family who really needs Efton to succeed. Hope he has success at Wake.

Thanks for sharing this. We give a lot of grief to seemingly dumb or greedy decisions from recruits and their families. Feels like there’s always more to the story. Most people are just people. Give ‘em grace.

In before 10 years from now Traudt reveals he was severely depressed and him being closer to his girlfriend (and family I guess) saved his life. And then this ages like milk. But today it’s fresh milk and im lapping it up.

Eh, I’m pretty sure they knew what they were getting into when they committed to will wade. The whole FBI probe was well underway at that point.

Efton’s recruitment got super weird. He basically put it on hold until the Spring so by then his options were different. Supposedly he had a big offer from the Overtime League, 100-200K if I remember. That’s when they were starting up and ponying up big. So of course the assumption was that Will Wade at least matched their offer.
This is all before NIL mind you. And the NIL/portal combo has made HS recruits in Efton’s position less valuable ironically now that it’s semi legal. Portal options are the first priority.
