Sharma nice turnaround jumper from the FT line. 8-4 white. Then he fouls IMac on a take.
Even though he isnt converting as much, dai dai has some juice/wiggle.
Robinson had that monster block on buchanan and nothing else
He looks pretty fast and competent with the ball. Jumper looks like itās going in every shot.
Impressive so far though defense might be a bit of a WIP.
Iām always mostly just interested in the lineups in this game, less than how guys play. Iād say right now itās pretty much what we expected. Warley is the starting PGā¦either Taine or Power starting, less about the player than whether playing big is the way to go. Theyāre gonna up and down shift with Power/Saunders as a 3/4 and 4/5. Running new stuff, trying to be more aggressive in transition.
Honestly no surprises, which makes me feel good that people didnāt feed me too much bullshit. I suspect weād see at least 9 if not 10 guys firmly in the rotation at the start of the year.
iMac makes both FTās, 8-6 white.
Dai Dai with a drive for 2 and the foul ends a scoring drought for both teams. Makes the FT 11-6 white.
That was a reaallllyyy nice dai dai drive and 1 on buchanan. Reece like
I forgot Rohde was even on the floor. Such a ādo no harmā player. Cant belueve i thought he was gonna drop 20 ppg last season
Nice block by Cofie.
And then a Power 3 from the corner. Taine responds with a 3 of his own. 14-9 white.
TJP is so hard to guard on catch and shoot. Tall with a great release. His shot is legit
I love Virginia basketball
I think for us to hit our ceiling we need him out of the rotation. Afraid his upside is just too limited
White wins the 3rd quarter 16-9 and I guess thatās it. Will post thoughts in a bit, hope the PBP helped satiate the fans who couldnāt make it out lol.
For those that were there, thoughts on the new offense? Struck me that there was a lot more going on than oftentimes in recent years, a lot more movement. Not sure the movement was efficient, though. What did others think?
Seemed like a lot of 5 out and continuity ball screen.
Anyone else think the lack of menās intros was odd? Maybe a Tony humility pillar thing?
I yhink everyone just tired after a long day
Scattered, rambling thoughts going down the road.
- Starting 5 of IMac/Warley/Power/Saunders/BB looked crisp on both ends. Think thatās the lineup to start the season.
- Saunders looked really solid, still seems pretty perimeter oriented but I could see him being our leading/2nd leading scorer.
- I thought Bliss looked more sound with the ball than Dai Dai and has a better looking shot, but Dai Dai is more explosive going downhill. No clear winner between the two. Warley looks like the clear cut starting PG.
- BB looked meh, nice post move to start out but then pretty rough offensively the rest of the way. Looked bigger but still not quite there.
- Offense is definitely faster, not moving at Mach speed and still had our shot clock run down a couple times but generally there was less stagnation.
- Can you guys believe Bama lost to Vandy?
- Taine should be our 6th man, first guy off the bench. Very much in control.
- Sharma looks like heās gonna be a player. Needs to get a bit stronger and clean things up defensively but his shot is beautiful and he looked solid with the ball in his hands.
- Rohde looks improved but not sure by how much. Didnāt take many jumpers.
- Powerās shot looked good and he had a couple nice drives. His size will help him on defense.
- A Rob is a major WIP on offense but held his own defensively.
- Cofie was up and down, probably a RS candidate but did make some nice plays including a good block.
- Team overall looks solid albeit an incomplete product. Weāve got a lot more shooters and maybe more importantly guys willing to shoot the ball this season but itāll be a process trying to find out where everyone fits. Feel like past the starting 5 thereās gonna be a ton of lineup tinkering this year.
- We won!
How did the band sound? Any new wrinkles?
Band wasnāt present. Probably all getting turnt after the big football win earlier.
