Depends on whether you’re ranking Brownell based on the last four years, or his entire stint at Clemson. He’s been solid the last four years, and absolutely mediocre for the 10 years up to that point.
I will say, if he’s still in the top 5 2 years from now, the ACC is in a bad place
Agreed on that. He’s been one of the more consistent coaches in the ACC the last four years, but that speaks to the dip in conference quality as much as it does his coaching acumen
Bennett in 2011 had to rebuild a once proud program with the benefit of a shiny new JPJ. It took him about four years, making the sweet 16 in year 5
Brownell scrapped a program together from sticks and straw. Littlejohn has always been undersized and unimpressive, but he got it a good facelift in 2016, the Swann Practice Facility nextdoor built, and another big facilities investment going on now. He needed eight years to get the program going, making the S16 in year 9.
He’s dealt with similar issues as UVA in trying to do well in the shadow of the Carolina mafia, he was arguably as close to landing Zion as we were to Keels or others before K had the final word.
Also, I respect that you never hear any hint of scandal, friction, etc out of their program.
Anyways, back to the Odom vs Brownell 2 vs 3 debate… When Odom gets out of the first weekend of the NCAAT, I think it’s more of a debate. Brownell’s S16 and E8 appearances are better than anyone in the ACC has other than Scheyer.
thats not a great statement about the Acc. Was not long ago we had three coaches with Natty’s.
Incredible stat: LSU’s average age is older than the Spurs starting five
Clemson went to 3 straight tourneys before brownell took over, though
Yeah but how do you age Wemby’s species? That could be very mature for his alien race
Not sure I get the love for Brownell. It seems longevity and attrition account for his ascension in these rankings, he was always clearly behind the great ACC coaches (K, Williams, Bennett), and hasn’t won anything.
I’m with you. He was on the hot seat at Clemson for a long time before PJ hall …. people quick to forget
Yeah, but of current ACC coaches, who’s better? Who’s won more?
Is the question about current ACC coaches or of all time?
Counterpoint: which school has a gerund that relates to its consistent act of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory? Clemsoning is a very real thing

Mad props to XHoo.
Underused meme.

14 here. Duke 2, Louisville 13, Miami 19, UNC 25
From a glance, USC, Missouri, and UNC are the teams I’m most skeptical about hitting their rankings.
