Basically reverting back after clearly changing policy last season without announcing it? Weird behavior. I have a tinfoil hat-level theory about it though.
Share it! Share it! (If youâre comfortableâŚ)
Theory is that they took an accelerationist bent last season with international pro eligibility to try to shift public sentiment to be more anti-player and more pro-NCAA regulation. But that the plan was to position themselves for a crackdown eventually.
And then the second tinfoil hat is that they were especially lax with internationals (vs domestic pros like Bediako) to take advantage of any latent xenophobia in the average fan (that one is more spicy than I actually believe, donât take it seriously).

I actually do think they were trying to hold hands to the fire to force the Trump admin to get involved on some âforeigners taking american kidsâ moneyâ shit. Donât think it was that well thought out, but I think they were happy to potentially accelerate it
Yeah, I think they underestimated the level of âI donât care how, I want to beat the sh*t out of our rivalsâ in the average fan
HGN from last summer on this international player stuff:
Potential solution:
Is this where the labor laws of various countries/the EU start to matter, in terms of minimum required compensation?
AlsoâŚI like how we went from the promise of âEligibility is simple now, just be under 24â to âwe are counting how many orders of moules frites your team bought for youâ in the same offseason
No idea. I suspect there are layers and layers to this stuff which is why it took weeks to get clarity on TDR last year.
Thatâs why itâs hard to get too worked up. I think Sweeney is a good writer but there were a number of things in there that just led to more questions:
- does it apply to guys who were already eligible (not really definitive in the article, though the focus was on prospective) ?
- whatâs the effect of playing in a league with the minimum salary? Truly ineligible, or a sliding scale?
- What other leagues are in that list besides the euro league
- etc etc etc
Will this rule grandfather in guys who have already played like TDR and GrĂźnloh? Or no new guys this year? If so weâd be screwed
Drew
Thatâs my first question above. If I had to guess, Iâd say it probably applies to new eligibility cases, but Iâd say it as a question, and kind of shrug my shoulders, because I donât really know tbh.
New theory- NCAA general counsel is looking to justify a budget increase for their department. Gotta drum up some new cases!
I did a double take at first but despite only one year in the league I think you can make a pretty good argument Odom is the #2 coach in the league
CBK is clickbait, engagement farming.
That said, Iâd have Odom 3, give Brownell his due.
Putting Malone that high is just trolling.
I feel like Kelsey is too high but is anyone else any better?
Pains me to say it but Young is way way too low. Not his fault his school barely cares about basketball, he single handedly keeps them in the conversation.
Also I understand that Murray has a high rep as an assistant under Hurley at UConn, but him being eight spots higher than Gainey who is also a very well regarded assistant makes no sense.
To be honest I donât really understand what criteria was used here other than trying to be clickbait lol, lots of contradictions.

Yup. Itâs like their lists of âtop-50 college townsâ which are more or less randomly ordered, from what I can tell.
Agreed. Brownell is ahead of Odom for me. Guy gets 3/4 stars to both stay at Clemson and develop or sometimes even boomerang (Godfrey).
Would be great if they could settle in on the court!
But alas not the world we live in lol
