šŸ€ PORTAL SEASON (UVa Offseason) 2026

Cooley gotta go, man.

We don’t need to recreate Ugo…. We’ll recreate him in the aggregate

but fr if Johann takes a step, we can get similar production at the 5 this year

As we inevitably starting getting loose with position and role definitions and turning everyone into a PG/shooter/rim protector, etc:

Pulling out a few players that fit the Jacari mold in the low-major space.

  • Preston Edmead (Fr - Hofstra)- 38% on 200+ attempts (only 40% assisted). CAA freshman of the year.
  • Damari Wheeler-Thomas (Jr - NDSU) - breakout year for him in Jacari’s old role. Not Jacari though.
  • RJ Johnson (So - Kennesaw State) - 41% on 126 attempts, can score at the rim. 6’4ā€ 225 lbs.
  • Adam Olsen (JR - S Alabama) - 6’8ā€ with a Hauser stroke. First year after two years in Canadian pro-league. 40% on 250 attempts. Plodder though.

I just looked at players with a FTR > 30, > 120 attempts, steal rate > 1.5% and 3P% > 36.

This just isn’t true.

Chance is a much better rebounder and gets more steals. He’s stronger on the defensive end and holds up better to players trying to use their size against him - which is huge. Much more opportunistic and capable of the splash play while not quietly leaking as much on the defensive end. His help defense is also more disruptive because of his range and physicality as well as his nose for the glass.

Offensively, he has more diverse ways to finish, is more aggressive, has more range with his shot and has a much quicker release as well, which helps with shots actually attempted vs. refused.

Kihei wasn’t even better at taking care of the ball (except for his Freshman year, barely). He had fewer assists per game in more minutes his Freshman season, as well - and assists are really the only area that veteran Kihei was clearly better than Freshman Chance.

5th year Senior Kihei prior to getting run down due to overuse was a very good player - but, IMO, Chance is already a better player now with a ton more upside. And that’s comparing what Kihei became vs. how Chance is starting. Compare Freshman Mallory to Freshman Clark… it’s not even a close conversation despite that team being national champions.

Not sure it’s seven worth debating Chance’s upside vs Kihei. It’s so obvious by the amount of time and space Chance needs to get off a shot (way less than Kihei) and his production in the lane that Chance has a higher ceiling.

No guarantee he’ll reach it but Chance is a potential 1st team All ACC guy as an upperclassman

The funniest part of all this speculation is we’re absolutely just going to end up with 2 more euro guys we’ve never heard of before.

Adam Atamna might end up getting drafted, but he’s an intriguing one. 18 years old (2007 birth year) and playing rotation minutes on a Euroleague team:

That’s right. Kihei’s first year he shot 34.1% from three. Chance shot 34.5%. Chance has a better looking shot though.

Kihei could throw a better lob though. Really hope chance can add that to his game

Can we please not turn this into another Kihei Clark thread?

Haha - so true. I wonder what percentage of that assist discrepancy is all lobs

This isn’t a Kihei Clark thread - it’s a Chance Mallory thread! Talking about how he’s a talent around which you can build over three years assuming he stays.

I think it is worth discussing because lets be honest- they’re both 5’8-5’10, with small wingspans. Chance weight= 186 lbs, Kihei weight= Up to 172lb

My point is that they brought alot of the same skills to the table, except Chance has a better shot, but they also have some of the same *issues- their size.

Ultimately what did Kihei in was that he was not provided taller/shooting guards around him that would allow him to continue to flourish as a sixth man- semi starter. I hope that Odom will be able to do that for Chance.

Their roles were very similar; plus people are praising Chance as a 6th man and disrespecting Kihei as a 4.5 year starter.

I mean look at my icon- I’m a big fan of Chance- but alot of it is based on potential and *not performance thus far.

Posted this in VIP but Brett Decker from Liberty fits the mold. Can get his own shot like Jacari could, elite shooter, can actually score a bit in the lane too.

apparently Christian Bliss has entered the portal after his 1 season at Delaware…

Running list of potential starting SGs (either in the portal or would make sense for them to portal for variety of reasons)

  1. Terrance Hill
  2. Mason Falslev
  3. Rodney Rice
  4. Finley Bizjack
  5. Tyler Lundblade

Rice might honestly be the perfect fit if he fits culturally and there aren’t lingering injury concerns. Don’t know if he’ll transfer or not, though.

Decker missed my list due to FTR which probably is arbitrary here since watching video he doss seem to be able to create.

That said, Evan Miya has him as the 3rd worst defender in all of C-USA (> 500 possessions) so he might be a pass from me.

Sounds like a perfect Jacari replacement then, lol

Blackwell? or is he too unrealistic

also juke harris

Surprisingly Jacari was the best defensive player on his team in the Summit League.

By DBPM, Decker was about 4x worse. Not a perfect comparison of course.
