šŸ€ PORTAL SEASON (UVa Offseason) 2026

Jaland Lowe is one of those guys where you’re choosing potential vs production, and hope you can get something more out of him than what he has been to this point. He’s a talent, but he doesn’t play winning basketball. He’s crafty, but really careless at times. Total liability defensively, selfish, and a piss poor shooter from long range.

His dad has a relationship with Sampson. But wow…. Lowe is just so soft and almost the exact opposite of everything you think a Kelvin Sampson player should be. If Lowe is open to tough love coaching, and Sampson doesn’t view what Jaland has put on tape for 3 years as a non-starter, playing for Sampson would probably be really good for him.

Fair points - I just hope that the (hopefully) last starter spot is a 1st round or early 2nd round talent. If we want to just run back this year’s performance, plenty of these names mentioned so far will be fine to get us back there but if we want more like elite eight or final four, we need better talent.

Michigan with 3 players expected to be drafted in 2026/2027, Arizona with 3, Illinois with 3, UConn with 5. These are obviously projections and plenty can change but the fact remains that you need NBA level talent so I’m hoping that we can get to the 3 threshold with Grünloh, Mallory, and insert 3rd guy from portal and maybe Sam Lewis has another jump and makes that 4 guys.

Early in the portal so not a ton of names in just yet but want us taking big swings at guys that would be on a caliber similar or better to Lowe.

Likely back home to Texas. UT or TT?

I’d bizjack all over if we landed him.

We talk about this guy already?

Not the ideal Chance partner size-wise, also he’s gonna be a top attraction in the portal. But as a 3-star far out of the top-100 he did quite well as freshman.

Let’s get Kenny G!

He came up in my research for Jacari-like bench production, but I didn’t end up listing him given seemed like he would be more of a guy with legitimate P5 starter opportunities.

Also I need to remove RJ Johnson from my list. Seems like he has some past SA allegations that may make him a bad culture fit.

Don’t think he’s what we are looking for but he will be popular

Blue Cain and Somto Cyril for Georgia also expected to portal.

Kareem Stagg soon? Will Mike White even be able to field a team next year?

The Shooting never came around for Blue. But dude is efficient inside the 3pt line on good volume. Seen Tennessee fans interested in Blue since he is from Knoxville.

Cyril would be interesting.

Cyril will probably be starting at a blue blood next year

That’s my guy. He’s actually a decent perimeter defender and can generate steals, rebound well. 90% from the free throw line, so he’s got to be a better shooter than what he showed.

Wouldn’t love pairing him in a starting lineup with Chance or at least would be underwhelmed. He’s 6’5ā€ but kinda flimsy. Wouldn’t feel great to have both starting guards coming off 30% shooting years from three.

Brett Decker in. Seems to be some UK smoke already. Would prefer Hill if he enters but suspect we at least make a call.

DTW just had to change his underoos.

I’m in for Kareem - there’s the Barksdale connection. Also feels like he likes a bunch of UVA player posts already on IG lol.

Hill and Decker are very different targets imo. Hill is worth a massive check. Decker is more of a role-playing specialist. Probably a seven figure difference in what each is gonna get paid.

Wait. Is that Michael Carter-Williams the former Syracuse guy and Sixer and Marcus Zegarowski’s half brother?
