🏀 PORTAL SEASON (UVa Offseason) 2026

I think if we were offering him a starting spot, he would’ve already committed by now

Moneyball-ing college hoops for the win (hopefully).

I don’t think Odom’s defensive “system” is based on the idea of having bad perimeter defenders. I think he placed priorities elsewhere last year – like shooting – and the tradeoff was bad perimeter defenders, and so he adjusted his defensive scheme accordingly.

I think in an ideal world, Odom would like perimeter players who can shoot AND play defense, and thus he would be less reliant on an Ugo-like human eraser. Will he get that? I have no idea. But I would argue that even with his problems getting over screens last year, Chance will prove to be a better perimeter defender than Hall was, and that whoever we get as our shooting guard can’t be a worse perimeter defender than Malik. Plus, I think Eli will contribute on that end.

Fun fact #1: Paul McNeil Jr. once scored 71 points in a high school game.

Fun Fact(s) #2: Paul McNeil Jr. shot ~42% from three last year. And he’s 6’5”. And he’s athletic. And he scored 26 points against us in the acc tourney. And he’s in the transfer portal.

Let’s go get our man Coach!!

Mark Pope might be the worst salesman in college basketball

Or maybe Wright used UK to get more money from BYU.

Mark Pope actively shopped himself while at BYU because a lack of resources and support and landed the job at Kentucky….

He tampered with Rob the entire season with the plan of making Rob and Colin Chandler his starting backcourt. BYU snags Chandler, Kentucky successfully draws Rob to the portal and brings him to Lexington ready to put pen to paper, and then loses Rob to BYU less than 24 hours later. Now his former school will be boasting the backcourt he planned on having this season. BRUTAL beat man.

Also unrelated but have on good authority from friends(who personally know Dallin), that Dallin HATED Mark Pope.

Wow that’s fascinating. Mark Pope, for all his limitations so far (not many, but some questions about roster construction), does seem like a genuinely good dude. Surprising to hear about Dallin’s view of him.

Dang, that’s crazy but also believable.

Separate thought but I hope Dallin Hall stays an ambassador of the program. He’s incredibly charismatic and outgoing, but also seemed to genuinely love it at UVA. I could see him ending up on the coaching staff one day

What if I told you Kentucky’s offer was larger than BYU’s, making this even more insane LOL.

Hall as a coach is a great idea. He has the Ty qualities of leadership, smarts and court sense.

Maybe the kid Google’d Pope and didn’t realize he wasn’t the HC at BYU still.

Agreed and we just found out that we are in Able’s top 7. That seems more in line with the type of guy we’d want to start and Fiegen to come off the bench like Jacari and provide scoring.

I mean we technically own them after beating them three times in the same season…so it’s not really poaching, we’re just claiming what’s ours :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

From what I’ve seen Wade is offering McNeil a big bag to go to LSU. He probably ends up there or back at State.
