Meh this same contingent has been calling themselves the ârealistsâ and everyone else the optimists for years. Yet after one of the best years in UVa athletics history, theyâve taken exactly zero accountability. Same group of people that said that Tony Elliott would never win anything and that scoffed at the people who said UVA was intent on building a top 15 basketball roster last year.

Iâve been an avid fan of UVa basketball for more than a half century. I have seen great times, and I have seen less than great times. I was neither optimistic nor pessimistic after the season ended. After watching the team rise from the ashes last spring, this year things seemed exponentially brighter. Then, after getting de Ridder back for his last year, and, presumably, having Sam Lewis return for his final season, I see no reason not to be optimistic. If the staff can fill an entire roster, which finished second in the conference, in a few months, then finding one starter and two subs ought to be a cakewalk for them. Admittedly, the process isnât transparent. It is beyond opaque, and that will continue to produce some angst here. Lastly, I am not so giddy about matters that I believe a repetition of last year is a certainty, but I am not apprehensive about Virginiaâs prospects, either, Itâs good to be a âHoo!

Ha! Thanks for saying that. One other little tidbit. Iâd mentioned a few weeks back that I had lost my VAF contact via the Transfer Portal. Well, I have another one and that relationship is developing/expanding. The player intel is very hard to get and is now rapidly changing. However, UVA is in no way short on funds, particularly for football, menâs basketball, and (to a lesser extent) womenâs basketball. We have very deep pockets, but there is a concerted effort to be methodical, intentional, and circumspect in the allocation of funds/resource. We might get outbid from other institutions, but it is not because the money isnât there. Itâs because we donât want to be foolish.
