They didnât change their votes. They were always a no on any expansion. We changed our vote to yes on VT.
So we voted no without vpi, but yes with them, and unc sucks and fuck Duke voted no with them but failed to vote yes without them, so itâs their fault? Ok fuck those schools.
We had no choice. The Gov and the Legislature chained VPI to our throats.
We saved them. Itâs that simple and itâs true. They had nowhere to go.
In reality, Techâs situation 20 years ago wasnât as dire as the politicians made it out to be. They probably would have followed a similar path as WVU and stuck it out in the Big East a few more years, then gotten an invite to somewhere like the Big 12.
Oh, I know the story. This is why I have to laugh and scoff at people who think the VA legislature and/or governor can force UVA to save VT in realignment again. We would be the ones joining a conference and that conferenceâs members would be voting for us. We have no vote and no leverage to drag them along.
Bingo!
While they cannot force UVA to take VPI with them anymore, they can prevent UVA from leaving the ACC if they see it as leaving VPI hanging. I would be surprised if they donât do that.
Weâre trying to swim and VPI is a stack of cinder blocks tied to our necks.
VT is a double-wide chained to our escape vehicle.
Maybe but it does feel like a different situation. If UVa has a chance to give Virginia a school in one of the big two, would it make sense to make us pass on that just to keep the Hokies company? We donât have a swing vote here like last time. If we tell the Big Ten that they need to invite both of us, theyâll just move on to a less complicated target.
Itâs the whole bird in hand saying.
It is a different situation, but put aside common sense for a moment because the politicians who are more interested in getting re-elected than doing what is right donât use common sense. I think there are folks that would rather see UVA and VPI die together in mediocrity than have UVA succeed and VPI fail. If UVA jumping to a better situation puts VPI in a bad spot, I believe theyâll try to block it. I really hope Iâm wrong, but thatâs how I see it.
The most I can see happening is the concession that the California legislature made UCLA give to Cal, which was something like 10 mil a year.
For political purposes, count the votes. Last time getting VT in mightâve gotten Warner et al a few more votes from SWVA and it didnât cost him any votes from UVA partisans. This time, if politicians hold UVA back, theyâre going to lose votes and $$$ from certain UVA partisans and will gain little, if anything from VT partisans.
My bad⊠4547 voiced my thoughts on the matter.
Too bad the ACC couldnât figure something like this out w/ a bunch of East Coast teamsâŠ
It would infuse an end of year excitement even for the bottom teams that would keep those fan bases engaged and dollars would continue to flow despite crappy results on the fieldâŠ
Can you imagine a UVa-VT game that had the loser relegated? Gives me goosebumps!
Please no. Itâs just a terrible idea.
This wouldnât be some fantastic story like Wrexham. Youâre talking a team like UVa having to play Buffalo, UConn, etc. on a weekly basis. Whatever attendance we have left would be gone and the administration would actually do what it has unintentionally done for the past two decades â kill the program.
We donât have a Ryan Reynolds whoâs going to save us.
So keep status quo and accept 1-3 wins a year? You think thatâs not killing the fan base?
You want accountability from the top down? Hard to see a solution better than this. Easy to play the slow game when you know how much money is coming in. This rewards success, something thatâs been sorely lacking in our Football programâŠ
Spoiler alert
When has that been the case? Three wins last year, but sure as hell not 1-3 the previous five seasons.
Promotion/relegation is a stupid idea. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.
Anyone relegated from P5 status might as well not play. No fanbase is going to pay to see UConn and Buffalo. They will pay to see Clemson, FSU, etc., and certainly have, even in our not-so-good years.
Weâre Americans. Everyone has a chance in America (which is why we love stories like Hoosiers). Everyone in D1 has a chance to go undefeated and play for something big. Relegation is hierarchical Euro bullshit that has no place here.
I think relegation only works if you keep it within the same conference. Like for the Big 10, have 9 in the top tier and 9 in the lower tier. Bottom 4 or 5 from the top are relegated, top 4-5 from the other tier are promoted. Only the top tier teams can make the playoff, but turnover is so constant that no team is in the lower tier hopelessly forever. Money for every team stays the same.
This is certainly a take. Not one I agree with at all but a take.
Literally no one has said anything about playing UConn or Buffalo. But youâve put your Jump to Conclusions Mat to good use here.
Wasnât Broncos credo âearned not givenâ? Seems like relegation aligns perfectly with his valuesâŠ
But hey
