šŸ—ŗ Potential ACC Expansion & Conference Realignment

Lack of investment is the bigger issue than allowances. Apathy from the base hinders us more than admissions. And quite frankly, I’m part of that apathy now. Wasn’t five years ago but I’ve found other things to do with fall Saturday and don’t foresee myself returning to college football fandom outside of the 2ish games I attend in person

We did, and the coach ran away.

Going back to the same well with the donors runs out at some point. And the really really big money guys have other interests for their giving that dont include UVa football

True but we get next to nothing from small time donors. I know the little I give is marked for basketball and lax and won’t be changing anytime soon. Good news is they’ve endowed most of the basketball scholarships and JPJ is aging well so we are set up to succeed beyond TB and Paul Tudor Jones as long as football musical chairs doesn’t screw us conference wise

Things have become astronomically more expensive. Of course for football. Need a real whale to get those things moving.

I remember TB few years ago said the lockerroom needed up grades. Couple 3 million was raised in the drop of the TB hat

VAF told me that there are 5 basketball donors that if TB needs anything of substance the money magically appears.

Well Tony rarely asks but those donors know Tony deserves it

Just look at improvements at JPJ the last 5-7 years and you’ll know what program moves the fundraising needle. Locker room, weight room, dining hall (all sports benefit), video board. The biggest NIL allocation is now Men’s Basketball as well with very little hope that football will EVER compete on a per player basis. Bringing this back to the thread topic, there needs to be an infusion of big bucks and the big 2 conferences offer a start in that direction.

Delusions

They act like the ACC begged them to join and they did the ACC a favor. The ACC didn’t want them and was blackmailed into letting them in by the Virginia Legislature and Governor.

ā€œTo hell with all of this. Its time for Virginia Tech to wake the hell up and do what is best for us going forward. We have a legitimate football brand with a strong regional following. We shouldn’t have to put up with the bullshit we’re dealing with now. The ACC failed us and we should have absolutely no shame in turning our backs on them now. Its time to team up with FSU and Clemson and do what is best for us by getting the hell out.ā€˜

Excuse me - team up with Clemson and FSU??? No one, and I repeat no one, wanted the Hokies except for the Virginia legislature. And I still blame Duke and UNC because they still could have blocked VT’s admission.

No one is associating Tech with Clemson and FSU ….hell even Miami which arguably has a better football brand than FSU is getting zero mentions. Wake up, it’s 2023 and there is zero value in the VPI brand, none, nada, zip, blank, no takers. Define regional brand? Bleaksburg??? It’s effing West Virginia with even less teeth and no cute beaver sitting on your …… head.

Duke and UNC voted against. It was 7-2. What else did you want them to do?

Vote twice?

VT was on the second ballet… if Duke/UNC had voted yes on first ballot, which didn’t include VT, there would never have been a second ballet. The first vote was only for BC, Syracuse and Miami. The second vote was for VT and Miami.

Thanks for the explanation - I knew there was a reason that Duke and UNC ended up being complicit in getting VT into the ACC.

Do you know why they changed their vote? Was it because they wanted that shit stain of a school in the ACC?

yeah, we were the swing vote… voted no on the first ballot, because it didn’t include VT. Had UNC or Duke voted yes, it would never have come to the second ballot.
