If any ACC school manages to figure out how to leave, much less those 2, then the floodgates have opened and weâd better fight to get on the B1G/SEC liferaft.
At that point, the only thing stopping the nuclear option is no person or school or conference wants to take the blame for causing the collapse of the ACC.
So funny how everybody on here falls for the drama propaganda. By Aug 15th if Florida State bolts we will have our answer. Until then lets obsess over a dude that promotes swimming news.
Itâs just wish-casting. I donât think anyone here believes the rumors about ACC teams. Most remember that Swain is looking for clicks. Itâs just a bunch of people (including myself) wishing that we werenât tied to a sinking ship.
That said at least we did get some good swimming news this weekđ
The ACC teams are really in a tough position. Even if some were willing to risk the GOR/exit fees with law suits doubtful the B1G/SEC would gamble with extending an invite to them unless they were in the free and clear which wont happen until they settle lawsuits etc. Really only reasonable way is to settle with the conference for some astronomical amount 300 mill and then just hope you stay afloat while you make it up down the road. However, the ACC will likely fight it tooth and nail knowing every team that wants out will just do the same.
The ACC is a dying ship. But it would also be stupid to shift distribution to favor Clemson and FSU when they are still going to do everything in their power to try and leave
Totally agree with you there. You cannot tip the boat to favor them at this point where revenue sharing is already lagging behind the big two conferences.
Yeah, I think the conference would consider that before making such a rash move. It can not be FSU and Clemson and all others fending for the remainder of revenue. Miami could maybe work themselves into that lionâs share, but no other program has shown that they can maintain healthy levels of high performance in football (honestly says everything about why the conference is where it is). And increasing the gap between programs in the conference does not seem to be the way out this (or at least it certainly does not play to our strengths, which is really my primary interest).
Yeah, no reason to go to pure uneven distribution to appease 2-3 schools at the expense of everyone else when those schools will leave at their first opportunity either way. Also, thereâs no way any sort of feasible uneven distribution makes up the entire gap between the ACC payout and the P2 payout without rendering the have not group permanently non-competitive.
Was just reading back through this thread, and I think this is what FSU is basically suggesting: financial relegation. Do well and you make $$. Do poorly and you get less.
This whole thing is so frickin weird. If the GOR is really airtight like the Massey prenup (and that seems to be what people think), then itâs true that FSU doesnât have any great âleaveâ options at the moment. Which is why they seem to be really exploring their PR options (the âstay, but whineâ option).
But (contrarian alert), while I agree that there are real downsides to unequal payouts from media rights deals, I also think there are real downsides to ignoring the concerns of your #2 football program just because they canât leave easily at the current moment.
But what would you do to make them happy? All they want is more money. There is no more money to give them. They have made clear they will leave at the first opportunity. Why would we give them some of our money if thatâs the case? Itâs only hurting us and changes nothing.
Also, you know what would have also helped the conference in the current media environment? FSU not sucking for the past several years. They are meant to be one of the powers carrying our brand but they and Miami canât get out of their own way.
