Itās been discussed before, but from the perspective of their research consortium I have a difficult time believing that the BIG will choose Clemson and FSU. I
Frustrating that the Big 12 is obviously positioning itself to be the clear #3 conference and the ACC is forever evaluating itās options as itās slips down the ladder.
It does feel depressing. That said, Iāve yet to read a convincing suggestion of what action there is for ACC to take right now. Unfortunately we cant unilaterally renegotiate our TV deal. Expanding is harder because weāre already at 15 teams and the teams we could maybe add probably arenāt game changers since most of those are already in the SEC, BIG, BIGXII, or hoping to be.
Best ACC plan is to invest heavily in building a time machine so we can go back and do things differently.
We desperately need off this sinking ship
Benefits of UVA joining the B1G
- Kon Knueppel gets more games close to home which we can use in our recruitment pitch
- We get to keep lacrosse.
- some other stuff I assume like money and program growth or some bullshit
Are we a Legend or a Leader*?
*I know the B1G dropped that some time ago, but they are cowards for doing so.
A move to the B1G would be great for everything aside from Football and Baseball. And even baseball might not be too terrible if some other quality programs are added to help the depth of the conference.
Have we done a poll?
Which would you rather have?
- SEC
- B1G
- ACC (tries to stay alive and adds teams like USF and WVU)
ACC for Life

Yeah, itās going to be tough on the expansion front. Now no one is leaving SEC, Big 10, or Big 12 that has a seat at the table. Youāre left with programs that donāt move the needle at all, and Oregon and Washington that are just ready to sail to the Big 10 when asked.
I really donāt believe the rumors about FSU or Clemson but part of me hopes they try to get out. Losing those two (the two best football brands) would just loosen up the gates.

Iād like to keep playing a hoops schedule thatās roughly half regional and traditional rivals, 1/3 or so fun games against other top 50ish competition, and the balance in mid majors and cupcakes. And Iād like all those games to be easily available on a screen, preferably in HD, on a live basis, on a service that I already pay for.
The grouping or whatever can be called whatever anyone wants.
Can we just kick football out of the NCAA instead? That seems like the easier fix before they drag the rest of college athletics down to fit one sport.
Nicole Auerbach was on Titusās podcast today and she seemed to be discussing it like itās not the craziest notion in the world. (Them breaking away, not being kicked out)
Iād be fine with that on principle, but serious question, wouldnāt that add to the growing disparity between haves and have nots? I donāt really see UVA being part of the theoretical break away football league, so wouldnāt that have some real repercussions in terms of athletic revenue?
I really think it may happen on its own.
I donāt see the point of conferences once it becomes this bloated entity with schools from coast to coast. It loses all meaning. Completely understand itās a game of musical chairs to get in the leagues with the best tv deals.
But how long until they start cutting dead weight? Once conferences lose all meaning, why would the SEC want to keep carrying Vanderbilt? And eventually why belong to a conference and share the money if youāre Alabama Ohio State etc.
You keep Vanderbilt because someone has to lose
As far as I can tell thatās the argument for bringing us into a major conference in football as well. Everyone needs a homecoming game.
If we ended up in the SEC we would hold our own in almost all sports, but where the money counts weāre just a nice Saturday getaway in Charlottesville or the easy win at home.
Honestly, as a fan Iād be fine with it. As long as we pump serious money to basketball and keep up relevance in non-revs Iām good. I will take those beatings on Saturday and hold out hope that every once in a while we have a nice 7-5 season. As several others on the board here have said my main interest as a fan is that we get to do that at the highest level of college athletics. If the ACC is able to get back into that discussion Iām all for staying. But honestly it seems like that ship has sailed.
Weād keep lax and soccer in the SEC (and play in a different conference for those sports). Baseball would be a bag oā dicks in the B10. Gotta remain in that conference and play ā and meanwhile the NJ and PA and NY recruits who choose us to escape the weather go SEC.
Thus, SEC > B10.
