I predict this is about all we can expect to get out of the Italy trip as far as content. Probably along with some heavily edited highlights

More revelations on #NutmegGate

The last part of that video where Reece, Armaan, and Kihei are laughing about something (we previously thought it was about the nutmeg) seems to because Reece missed a shot badly

Just an observation from a fan. I’m no insider. I have a few friends who are that send me a tidbit occasionally. Based on everything I’ve heard there is something that I think is notably different this preseason about the new guys.

Normally you hear: “so and so has a long ways to go” or something like that. I’m not hearing any of that this summer. I keep hearing “this guy is really good” and “these guys are living up to their billing” and so on about the new guys and I’m referring to the four first years and BVP.

One concern I had about BVP is that his career 3PT percentage is actually less than 33% and I felt that folks were expecting too much for him to boost our perimeter shooting. And shortly after I posted that on a message board somewhere, I had the at least the reflection to post something long the lines that my statement probably guarantees he’ll shoot 40%+. Well, early returns are that the 40%+ is more likely than his career mean.

I tend to downplay expectations for first years based on past experience. Everything I read and hear about the first years is better than I expected and people who I trust and are not given to exuberant optimism with young players seem optimistic about them, much more so than some of our past highly touted first years.

Just an observation. A few of you who have pretty good insight can concur or disagree based on what you’re hearing and seeing.

30% 3point shooter with his volume at the four would be welcomed . Anything to make teams respect the shot and provide more room inside.

Since this is that time of the year where our conversations devolve and we totally overanalyze the preseason videos… I propose that one of Murray or McKneeley needs to change their hair. I can’t tell the difference between them in the 0.8 seconds they are on the highlights. Even their profile pics on the official UVA site is of the same dude, just smiling in one shot and not in the other.

One of them needs to go Mamadi blonde, and give us a chance for another moment like this:

Love that game. Hunter had 26 pts in 27 minutes, missed 2 shots all night. He was toying with Louisville

50% chance of a fumble and then 50% chance of a miss and no foul and no rebound. Independent variables.

BVP’s stroke and footwork from 3 are excellent. I would totally expect a solid % (37%+) on open looks.

Me simply publicly pointing to his past shooting percentage will get him to 40%. It works every time.

Another reason for optimism is BVP took a lot of tough shots at Ohio. He won’t be taking those here. I believe when he announced someone posted he was above 1.1 points per possession on catch and shoot jumpers. Bodes well he can get closer to 40% on the type of 3’s he should be taking this season.

By the time the season starts it will be easier to tell. Mckneeley will be the one on the floor

Yes, I have come to that conclusion as well. He should get better shots on our team.

Note of caution/skepticism: good volume shooter doesn’t necessarily translate into better shooter at less volume. The Nolte paradox. And unless you’re Sam Hauser (proven top shooter in the sport, working through early kinks) or Armaan Franklin ( well, I guess someone has to shoot), the uva offense isn’t going to have a ton of tolerance for so-so volume shooters.

My optimism on BVP is that he does a lot well, so even if he’s not really good at any one thing at the ACC level, he could still contribute nicely.

I think I agree with your claim in a vacuum but don’t think it applies to BVP. The claim isn’t that he becomes more efficient on less volume. It’s that he a) stays efficient at the type of shot he’s already efficient at and b) Tony benches him if he tries to take the inefficient shots he took at Ohio. I mean the guy was taking off the dribble 3’s from 5 feet behind the line.
