What happened? We still fcked?

I was looking back at past commitment dates. We’re in uncharted territory. It surprised me to realize that only once in TB’s years did UVA not have a commitment before September And that was a technicality last year due to Bliss reclassifying after committing in the summer.

I think this is going to be more the norm going forward though. All the recruiting rule changes have encouraged it. By doing away with the junior year use them or lose them visits and having live periods in May and June, they’ve taken away the motivation and opportunity for those early summer visits that lead to the earlier commits.

First one to commit.

After sleeping on it I’ve decided I want Tillery over Mallory. Longer frame projects better for us, and I love his assist numbers.

Also I’m a little sick of the guards with injuries in HS.

Happy with either but rooting for Tillery now.

I keep going back and forth. Trying to think about it from the perspective of who compliments DD, Gertrude and Bliss the best. I think that is Mallory simply b/c of his shooting and he’s more of an alpha scorer than Tillery. If we didn’t have Bliss on the roster, I’d go Tillery.

Same thought. Haven’t had a certified bucket since Ty, at least at lead guard

My preference is Mallory, but not enough to wait on him if Tillery is ready to commit.

Yeah that’s fair, and I like the cville component as well. I’m not sure we should plan around Bliss and Gertrude yet though unfortunately.

For the moment, I’m trying very hard not to get too emotionally involved in 2025 recruiting. While all recruiting is important, this year’s results will be less critical than most years. The quality I think that will be most important in this year’s recruits will be patience. In all likelihood, the 2026 rotation is already on the roster. If the current players progress as I hope, then there won’t be any holes to fill as long as there is no unanticipated attrition. If there is premature attrition, then I suspect it will be because that player/those players doesn’t/don’t see a clear path to playing time, and that would mean that there is a perceived rotation in place. Aside from Ament, I am not sure that the frosh entering in 2025 will see much PT. The staff could whiff on every 2025 HS prospect, and get no one from the portal in the spring, and Virginia would still be in decent shape come 2026. The squad is that young and deep, IMO. Patience will be required of anyone from the 2025 class. It’s good to be a 'Hoo!

Sick of injuries in HS? What’s that even mean? Dre broke his leg in HS and missed a full year, Ty had hip surgery and missed most of his senior year and I believe both of those guys turned out to be pretty good. You wouldn’t be making that comment if it wasn’t for a freak accident with Gertrude.

Isn’t like any of these kids are out there trying to get hurt, I think Mallory will end up just fine as well.

Well with the Cincy crystal ball for Tillery it looks like its all in on Mallory now. I do agree that the Mallory-Bliss backcourt has the highest ceiling. Would love for that to be a higher octane offensive version of Kihei-Ty (I don’t think there are many similarities between Chance and Kihei besides height, but hard not to have the thought).

Gertrude had an injury coming out of high school that definitely hurt his ability to develop and contribute year 1 and it sounds like we’re going through it again with Bliss right now. Wasn’t a super well thought out comment, more of a smart remark.

I think Chance will be fine and would be excited to land him.

Jabri and McCorkle injuries too

I get what they are saying. A HS injury isn’t life or death, but it would be nice to add someone without an big injury history (not just rolled ankles).

It was your comment of wanting Tillery over Chance and noted you were tired of injuries in HS, not mine. I simply noted two players that missed significant time in HS due to an injury and turned out just fine. Injuries are obviously apart of the sport when you’re playing at a high level. I get what you mean to an extent of being “injury prone” but…

Being injury prone is something I’ve never really understood. I played football, wrestling and other hard contact sports as a kid and basically never got hurt. I’d always assumed the kid had a congenital foot condition or something, resulting in breaking a lot, or it was psychological in some way.

But my younger daughter’s athletic career has shown me how things can go. She can’t go 4 straight games without a trip to the ER, and its never the same thing twice. Dislocated kneecap, hit in the face with a field hockey stick, head-on-head collisions with other kids, possibly broken arm, etc. This is already the farthest she’s made it into a season without needing stitches on her face somewhere.

The point being, if I was a D1 coach I would never in a million years sign her because she’s clearly cursed and I wouldn’t want her inevitable spontaneous explosion to happen on my watch. No idea why, but by injury #8 you can only shake your head and sigh.
