Recruiting - Trick-or-Treat October

Possibly. All depends when they contacted him, and if/when Kaufman has notified them of his decision. They wouldn’t be interested in Spell if Kaufman were on board that’s for sure.

To be fair Indiana also reached out to Mustapha Amzil yesterday. As long as there is no offer, i wouldn’t assume it means much right? You never stop recruiting and such. Unless he is neither going to Indiana or UVA or UNC (nothing from their side and Jarace Walker involvement picking up heavy).

Little different with Indiana. They need frontcourt depth. It’s why the clear path to starting for Kaufman is a smoke screen. They’ll surely try to add another guy later when Trayce Jackson-Davis turns pro. . Plus they just don’t do things the same way, the filling specific roles like UVA does.

Got it.

I doubt either one tells us much about Kaufman. Spell’s UVA interest is probably a text on Saturday saying hey you looked good out there. Remember he’s visited, they’ve talked to him before, they know him. And Indiana’s just doing their due diligence on a shiny new object like everybody else talking to the guy from Finland.

To be fair, Purdue has been pretty quiet with bigs other than Kaufman and First. Like everyone, they covet Holmgren. Could they be the last program standing in the Kaufman sweepstakes. Possibly! If they gain traction with Holmgren, one of Furst or Kaufman, if not both will be left unhappy!

LOL on the text… when I saw his workout video with Devon I Jokingly thought that must be Like hearing from UVA… I didn’t really see a ACC level talent in this Bryson kid… maybe I need to squint or maybe I just don’t know…

Obviously, Bryson isn’t a polished product yet. However, his size, athletic ability, decent handle, and perimeter shot could be an asset if he is willing to be patient. I’m intrigued.

What’s Ben Gregg up to these days?

This is probably sarcastic but Tony made the choice to not offer. Don’t think he was a take even if we weren’t waiting for Kaufman (or at least I assumed Tony wouldn’t hesitate offering if he thought he would be a good fit). I liked Ben Gregg’s game a lot but I could see where the hesitation was (not a plus athlete, 6’7 instead of 6’9, who does he defend, can he score in the paint versus bigger players vs just being a spot up 3 point shooter).

If Kaufman goes elsewhere I really like the options in 2022 for that 3/4 combo and every 3/4 in the country already on a college team will technically be a free agent this off season.

Bossi on Kaufman, Keels and Houstan

I agree, at this point it appears Gregg = Nickel. See how things play out the rest of the cycle and maybe even in the transfer market and if a need is still there go after the local kid

Bossi mentioned Houstan without even mentioning UVa was in the mix… interesting.

My impression, and he freely admits on both Kaufman and Keels, is that he doesn’t have a real good handle on any of the 3 recruitments. All these kids are buttoned up until they announce, so I assume most info he gets is from the staffs…and we know ours isn’t talking…ever

I’ve had selective hearing for most of this cycle, but I think I’m finally coming to realize we may not get any of these guys. I’m ready to roll with Taine, and hope these other dudes land in the ACC if they don’t go with us. TB gon remind them year by year why nobody wants to play the champs

This age of social media and free information flow is counterproductive in finding out true information in recruiting (well… actually anything for that matter)… the rush to be the first to report something makes a lot of information half-baked and possibly wrong almost immediately after being published.

I wrote a paper earlier this year in my Air War College class on the effect of social media on the Intelligence community and public opinion… I could probably do a search-and-replace on that paper and change all “Intelligence community” to “Recruiting community” and it would all make sense. LOL!

To be honest I think the national experts have really been hampered by the lack of live events. They aren’t able to tap into the rumors that come up on the trail and don’t get the chance to talk to people in person. I really think they don’t know Jack (salt)

Rubbing elbows in those crowded gyms… a lot of random cross-talk that could be picked up on that doesn’t exist this year.
