⛹️‍♂️ Reece Beekman - Official Thread

I remember last year seemed like Houston didnt miss against us. This year their shooting looks generally awful. Almost like its on purpose

Well UVA is definitely the team that cures others shooting ailments lol. If you are shooting poorly then play us…however if you’re shooting well (JMU), then play against us and you will struggle…

I expect Houston to play well, BUT for us to keep it close.

Optimistic take perhaps, but does anyone else think that the Reece‼️ injury info maybe intentionally limited to keep Houston guessing?

I wish but no. Reece‼️

The thought crossed my mind

Without Reece, I’d gladly take 1-1 over the next 2 games

I certainly hope that’s the case

I don’t think that’s Tony’s bag.

If Reece’s injury that he has now is affecting him in march and beyond, something has gone seriously wrong. Even a moderately bad hamstring strain/tear with modern medicine and therapy should be fully fixed within 60 days. If it lingers longer than that, there is likely something else going on or a serious tear that might require surgery to fix.

Williford has already said he is “day to day” so I would think a moderately bad strain has already been ruled out.

I’m sure they got an mri and know the extent of the damage by now, but with hipaa and for strategic reasons they are not going to share that info with anybody.

But you are very right that hamstring injuries can linger on, and even once you feel fully ready a lot of times you are just one lunge away from aggravating it. Which is why many including me subscribe to the “add at least a week of extra rest/therapy on top of what the athlete subjectively feels he needs” strategy.

If he were to come back too soon and aggravate it, and sort of get into that cycle, it could be a problem for the entire year and many athletes have suffered through nagging hamstring issues for very long periods of time. I think the Uva medical staff is better than that, tho. They know how to do whatever you can do to try to avoid that from happening and if he needs to rest for Houston to maximize his chance of recovery they will sit him. If it is a pretty mild strain with no obvious structural damage noticeable on mri, it is possible he could play against Houston.

I am a gambling man, and there wouldn’t be odds on this, but if I had to set odds for Houston I would say it is very unlikely he plays given what he looked like vs jmu.

We will be an underdog without him. But we still have a decent chance and the spread won’t be more than +4 or so without Reece imo. Because the truth is we don’t lose much more at this point losing Reece than if we were to lose Kihei (tho I would say Reece clearly more important player at this point), and many fans wouldn’t have even let Kihei come back if they had the choice. We would have no chance in this game with Reece on the shelf if we didn’t have Kihei (and vice versa obviously).

Way I look at it, losing Reece for a handful of games is a lot better than losing Kihei for the whole season. Which again, many of our own fans WANTED.

And while we are a worse team without reece probably by at least 4-5 points per game in differential, we can win without him so there should be no dire rush to bring him back. We certainly aren’t bringing him back on the early side because “this is our chance of getting the #1 ranking” or we are thinking about ncaa tourney seeding or anything like that. It is possible that in march/April reece could came back on the early side of a hamstring issue when the worst thing that could happen is a longer off season recovery time, but they wouldn’t do that now.

Assuming he is gone for at least a few weeks, the young guys would get more time including taine. Silver lining.

Reece with the medicine ball!!!

Yeah and the standing row/push cable thing as well. Seems like he’s just doing core work but good to see that he’s still working out. Don’t see any tape or anything on the leg either

Yeah the grimace on his face showed a determination to work through discomfort.

Interesting that his hammy isn’t wrapped, though I don’t know shit about hammy injuries.

Well, the lateral transfiguration contortions with resistance bands indicates a moderate mobility in the biceps femorus longis. Impressive trajectory.

Hard to tell much about his injury from this video. Need to see Reece stepping off a bus before we can draw any firm conclusions.

But how does his hammy react to JWilly clapping??

“Day to day, we’ll see” - JWilly just now on Reece

“He’s been doing a bit” in regards to practicing

They’re being very secretive about this lol

I had a grade 2 hamstring injury I suffered in a soccer game fall of 2021… it took a good 8-weeks to recover. I didn’t have to wrap it and I was still able to ride the spin bike without any discomfort… I used to ride that spin bike 90 minutes some days because of how frustrating the recovery was. I could also do push-ups and any upper body exercises that didn’t exert my legs… standing without moving wasn’t an issue either.

As far as Reece getting around Grounds and to class, Return of the Jedi showed us the solution.

Caffaro or Traudt now have a job to do.
