Also, this would be HGN ‘shit hits the fan scenario’ and we are loading up on grad transfers lol
Man I wouldnt be surprised if that doesnt rub off. Look how great Kihei and Bens year was at UVa with no classes and some good NIL money in their pocket hahaha
It all depends on if scouts see the potential there. They have to know Reece isn’t 100% and when he was, he was phenomenal and what makes this team go as @HoozGotNext said.
A more extreme example was Darius Garland barely playing for Vanderbilt and still going top 5.
I get that, though even when 100% he’d still yip the occasional layup and his jumper just doesn’t scream NBA yet. If someone in the second is happy with him being just a facilitator and D guy then I guess. He’d be 5th offensive option in most lineups which you don’t really see from your pg
For all those reasons is why I don’t think Reece leaves early. Even when healthy he was at his peak a mid-to-late first rounder?!?! and that was before all the potential players entered the pool. Reece has never shown that he can carry an offense (not all his fault but the truth), or that he can shoot from anywhere on the court with constancy (more his fault).
He needs that extra year to show off what he can do, or he needs a Kyle Guy like moment (not happening). Not a knock on Reece or what he could become, but right now he’s not there and he hasn’t shown enough to prove that he will be there one day.
I’d guess the odds are against Reece leaving right now. Have always thought that. But I don’t know any more than you guys. We’ll dig into it after the season and find out what the people who’d know say.
*That’s as close to a promo as I do.
I’m just skeptical there’s been a decision. There’s a lot of hoops to be played and a lot of shoes to drop before most kids decide (NBA written eval, combine invites, workouts, etc).
You better wrap that logical talk up. I ain’t come here for that.
But from Reece’s perspective he had the hamstring injury this year. In his mind, what if he gets injured again next season? Another year older which heavily impacts draft evaluations.
If he gets a guarantee he has to go. Whether he will or not may very well come down to information we aren’t privy to (medical).
Hamstring injuries are a really cruel thing. I had a hamstring pop in my early twenties. Thought I was better, injured it again. Really messes with your mind. It took a long time to feel confident with that leg.
Reece was just so explosive before the injury. I have a hard time thinking his struggles at the rim recently don’t have something to do with it whether physical or mental. His defense has looked off too.
We will see.
The counter argument to the injury is NBA GMs are gonna have the same worry re the hammy. Might tell him go back and prove it’s not a long term thing’
That said, I am ok if Reece shows out at 85%, leads us to a FF, then declares. Otherwise, he should come back
3 years and was never given the keys despite being our best player. I wouldn’t blame him for bolting, even if it’s to another school. We did not do right by him!
I kind of thought that way too to be honest. But the more I think about it, I’m convinced playing with Kihei is partly responsible for turning Reece into an NBA prospect. He had to become a reliable catch and shoot guy. If he were playing with the ball in his hands for 3 years, not sure that happens.
I like this point a lot. High usage pick and roll player is a role that gets reserved for elite players in the NBA.
That’s a good point, but he’s not getting to the next level as a catch and shoot guy… He needs to develop as a guy who can run an offense. He would have benefited so much being that guy when we had NBA talent around him, we really missed an opportunity there. I would have started Beekman and Morsell, and called it a day. That’s the back court we should have developed instead of wasting 3 years trying to make this one work.
Lol he’s the freaking point guard. He has the keys. He just won’t do it.
NBA guys are looking for people that want to go do it. Blaming that on others is some BS
Id argue he wasn’t the point guard his first year and even Tony talked about the transition of Reece going from off ball to on ball and transition Kihei to more of an off ball role (meaning the previous years Reece was developing off ball mentality).
It absolutely affects development when you defer for two years; you suddenly just can’'t tell someone “alright go now”. Now that not how the human psyche works.
And before the injury he was showing that. That’s why we looked the best we have looked in ages during that November stretch
Imagine Reece and Ty playing together
Jerome is a pretty elite shooter so he would do well off the ball. On the flip side Jerome would absolutely dominate Reece mentally LOL. Jerome would be the pg because he would absolutely take it and Reece wouldn’t fight back.
You can blame Reece if you want, I don’t feel that way, but maybe you’re right. Either way it’s a bad back court and we’ve tried it for 3 years!
To bring it back to solely REECE!!
Look at the way he’s moving compared to just these last two games. Man…
