I don’t think the impact is enough that the NBPA would care or rather, it wouldn’t give up something else it wants to get this. And in the end, the players may even make out. 30 more players making a half mil is 15 mil. Maybe 10-15 teams would carry 14 players for 2/3s of the season, so say 15 guys are out 2/3s of a mil, that’s 10 mil. So net net, the players are up 5 mil.
Even if they were down 5 mil, that’s a rounding difference of total league salaries.
Also, the players are guaranteed a certain percentage of basketball revenue as salaries, so if a team spends up to the cap on its roster, do the players really care if 14 guys split that total or 15?
I had been looking for a site that aggregated the respectable NBA mock drafts, something like a bracketmatrix, and I finally found one:
It aggregates 10 mocks, though I’m not sure all are two rounders. It has Reece at 57. That’s right on the edge of being drafted (there are only 58 picks this year, two teams were punished by losing a 2nd rounder).
I’ll keep an eye on the site as we move toward the deadline.
FYI, add to the rumors….daughter at UVA said her friends ran into Kehei and Caffaro on the lawn today and asked about Reece. They said about 100% he was leaving…. 3rd hand from a bunch 20 somethings. Cain?
As folks have alluded this week, we most likely have our team for next year. No Reece, no Cain, and if we do get Robinson he’ll redshirt. We have our 10.
I don’t understand the Cain coming if Beekman leaves, is he suddenly a PG? Cain had a tiny window to commit before Rohde did but chose to take other visits. It’s really not advantageous to be a late 23 decider/decommit in this era and you can’t really take your time. I would have just stayed at GT over ending up at Penn state …
I think it’s just a matter of overall slots and a core rotation. Reece is squarely in the 8 man rotation. One less guy means more minutes for others.
In a concrete way: without Reece, Rohde probably has to play PG / offense initiator, which moves him off the 2 or 3 position and opens those up for at least a handful of minutes each game.
I suspect we’ll get to 11, somehow. I’d keep watch for decommits or late portal entries once the ‘declared draft crew’ returns. Lots of dominos still to fall that could trickle down to UVA in ways we don’t yet know.
