On one end I really want him to succeed and elevate his stock so he can put himself in a good position professionally.
On the other end I really want him back next year. I just think him running the show with this team would be legit. He’d get to actually be the guy with some floor spacing.
Only thing I don’t want is for him to leave this year and not have a good situation.
Tossing out a another angle on a story that’s already been told on here. But at this point Reece has essentially spent the entire spring preparing for the draft/combine/tryouts. We know he’s been traveling to teams etc. Point being, he’s essentially been disconnected from the school/student life since March 17, 2023.
Now, me imposing my thoughts and feelings onto the situations is; If Reece was already disenchanted to some degree with college, then what in the world would motivate him to return after spending the last 60ish days completely removed from it AND getting to see into the promises land and know what could be.
The mental shift required to lock himself back into that world is a mighty big hurdle.
Yep
I think maybe what a lot of people are feeling is I don’t think we saw the healthy explosive Reece all year.
I saw that fella in Vegas and he was clearly an nba first rounder then. Was so much fun watching that and shutting down Shannon.
Oh well I’m on the Eli train right now!!
For sure, but I think the difference there is Mamadi enjoyed school/UVa. Not to say that Reece doesn’t but there’s a difference. Mamadi wasn’t mentally gone he was testing the waters to see what might come up. Reece from appearances has moved on mentally, and to not move on physically would be a disservice to him and the program.
G league camp, not combine. But he did the circuit. Yeah, dragon, the obvious counter is that tens of kids test and come back every year, even ones who went to the combine. Heck, I think Timme has done it multiple times (which reminds me, Reece needs NIL on the other side)
It felt like Mamadi had a real plan to use the process specifically to come back to Uva with feedback and work on jacking up threes and dribbling and shit haha
We could only be so lucky to always have Mamadi at Uva man
Edit: my opinion is Reece is in the process as his step to pro basketball not to come back to work on what he knows needs work
If Dragon is right that Reece has essentially been away from UVa since mid-March, then one key question is whether or not he finished his spring semester classes. If he basically disappeared and didn’t complete the classes, he could be subject to probation or, worst case scenario, suspension for a year by the College (i.e., he wouldn’t be allowed to even enroll in '23-24 classes).
If he completed his spring classes and is still in good academic standing then he’d have no problem returning if he wants. But if he didn’t complete the spring classes and ended up failing them, at best he could have a LOT of classwork to complete, likely this summer, to maintain his eligibility.
Yes, you’re correct. But I’m not talking about tens of kids. I’m talking about Reece. No broad brush painting here. Every one of these situations is different and I will not pretend to have a clue about any of them. But I will speak as an authority on Reece because… the internet.
I’m assuming his academics are on the up and up and with a lot of things online he could do it all. But, that would be your smoking gun to know what Reece’s plans are.
This 1000%. He’s got more than one foot out the door just going through the process. He’s got a taste of the bright lights of the NBA, and now he’s OK coming back to college and bus trips to Winston-Salem?
Sure, I wish I could see Reece running the show with us, but I’ve come around that we’re helping him reach a personal goal and I’m all in with that.
