Short athletic guys tend to dominate the âgreat mixtape, meh careerâ list for that reason. Marcus LoVett is another one (though maybe that was more about handles).
I love that video, but at least that dude was trying his best. He was coached up and ready to go at Zion McDoubleMac.
Ol boy in thatâ Sevent picure⌠.
Probably still washing the jock smell off his shoulder.
Dave Leitao!
Leitao ended the 12 season NCAA win drought at UVa and came within a JR injury of probably getting a sweet 16. And after that, we had another 6 year tourney win drought (two Dave, 4 Tony). Thanks for the memories, Dave!
(This is 20% troll post, but 80% âhey hoops was still fun even in the dark daysâ post)
Leitao has to have the least remember conference championship and tournament run in school history.
In the Haney household, we remember:
- Dave Leitaoâs run
- The early Al Groh era looked like a step up
- Aaron Brooks was blackballed by the Saints
- Adam Hall was the most exciting UVa hoops player
- In the late 90s, UVa football couldâve won an SEC division
This was idle boasting, but the SEC West was kinda garbage from 95-98. We couldâve won it twice and contended a third time.
Bama, Auburn, and LSU were all in relative troughs. Who was doing enforcement at the NCAA in those days? Sherlock Holmes? Hercule Poirot?
It was inspector clouseau
We shut out Auburn at Auburn in 98. Proves your point.
Also beat UGA in Atlanta in 95 and should have beaten them again in Atlanta in 98.
And I think we beat Auburn in the home part of the home and home, too? I was at that UGA peach bowl in 1998. I feel like there were some Aaron Brooks and/or Todd Braverman shenanigans that cost us the game late. Mainly what I remember is stuffed cow toys flying after all our scores and grown men barking at me on the Atlanta subway (Marta?)
Auburn beat us pretty easily on a Thursday night on the home leg. That was the Ronald Curry commit game. What a shitty night in hindsight. Like a lot of UVA football, the tailgate was the best part.
I would imagine there were a lot of us on this site at the 98 Peach Bowl. I thought I was going to die on the drive back to VA because of the surprise (at least to us UVA 3rd years) ice storm on the way back to VA.
Braverman missed the kick to win it at the end. But Welsh went into his shell too early on the final drive settling for a long kick to win it at the end. We could have gotten another 10+ yards with the time remaining.
The worst part was that from the opposite end zone upper deck, the kick looked good for a long time.
Ah, right. Forgot about the Auburn home game.
I traveled to the 95 Peach Bowl and the @Auburn game. Petey Allenâs KO return TD in the Peach Bowl allowed us to avoid what would have been the first-ever college OT (overtime was installed experimentally for the bowl season that year).
The only play I really remember from that '98 Auburn game was Dex nearly decapitating an Auburn wideout on a crossing pattern. Under todayâs rules, they would have suspended him for the rest of the year. But the hit was perfectly legal at the time.
This was when the SEC teams were all snitching on each other to the NCAA. Things got a lot better for them once the commissioner told them to cut that shit out.
Yeah, I kinda had a vague memory of that.
That CBS check came in and that quieted everyone
Chose wrong uniform though!
