According to legend, Olden, Tom, Kenny & Bruce came to Cville prepared to commit as a group until Coach Holland told them that the starting guard slots were taken (by Othell and Carlisle, IIRC). The two guard recruits were hoping to hear they could at least compete for a starting job, but . . . .

Funny part is, Sheehey and Polynice went to a Final 4 the next year. In his four years at UNC, Kenny Smith never did.

Yeah, kinda crazy. After winning the title in ā€˜82 they didn’t go to the F4 again in the 80’s

Absolutely right. Here’s a telling of that story back in 2010. Man, Jay Bilas has been around a long time.

ā€œOdom was reunited with Virginia AD Craig Littlepage, who were both Cavaliers assistant coaches to Terry Holland. Littlepage goaded Odom to tell an old recruiting story from when UVa was wooing Rochester forward Tom Sheehey. Odom and assistant Jim Larranaga flew to New York to pick up Sheehey, Kenny Smith, Bruce Dalrymple and Olden Polynice for official visits, and Odom had to take a cab to pick up Sheehey at his home at 6 a.m. When Odom and Sheehey got into the cab and backed out of the driveway, the cabbie ran over the Sheehey family dog. When Sheehey got out of the car, the injured dog bit the star forward, putting the visit and the recruitment of Sheehey in jeopardy. Odom, showing extraordinary recruiting ability, got Sheehey on the plane and to commit to the Wahoos. And the dog survived the incident. It was a great story and had us on the floor with the way Odom told it.ā€

I remember we were looking for a good Air Force movie in some thread and there weren’t really any. I’ve at least watched these. I can’t say any of these are ā€œgoodā€ or even recent, but they at least feature the USAF (and not the USAAF) or at least USAF personnel (if not necessarily USAF jets).

Broken Arrow
The Right Stuff
Iron Eagle (and progeny)
Stargate (and progeny)
WarGames
Good Morning Vietnam
Transformers
Captain Marvel
Aloha (which I’m even loathe to mention, it’s so bad)
I think there was a Steven Seagal one too?

I will ban anyone who ever mentions this movie ever again. This was the WORST depiction of an Air Force officer I ever witnessed on film. Her hair was out of regs… she didn’t have her cover on at the correct times… her salute was HORRENDOUS! I had to walk out of the room while my wife finished the movie as my blood pressure was going up too much.

I am not even talking about the main reasons the movie was panned.

Most of the movies you mention have Air Force elements… but none are true Air Force movies… Iron Eagle is the closest, but they didn’t even use real Air Force Base names. Dumb.

Red Tails - Yes… not Air Force yet, but still…
Memphis Belle - Same… not Air Force yet… still US Army Air Corps
Dam Busters - both the old and new…
Tuskegee Airman
Master’s of the Air - series, but a great one
12 O’Clock High is my favorite Air Force (Air Corps) movie of all time so far

They also found the whitest woman possible to play a part Chinese Hawaiian character with a Chinese last name. And I like Emma Stone a lot. Which, I’m fine with casting her if you want her in your movie. Just change the character’s name and dump that backstory that’s not relevant to anything.

Pssst there’s a reason there’s no good Air Force movies…

Hard to make a compelling movie about paper clip flippers
