⛹️‍♂️ Ryan Dunn - Official Thread

I still look at red Shepherd’s stat lines, draft projection, etc., and think……….

He’s gone from KY but I think he would have spent 2 years at UVA and been better for it. I watch iMac’s D and see a future that a kid from Poca saw when he locked in. Reed gets only Cal’s idea of defense, which means score more.

Sheppard has 24 steals in 8 games, good for #6 in the country and tops at a P6 school. He must be playing some sort of defense.

Yeah but how many Reblockstealbounds?

He only goes for steals. It’s a weird defense.

time stamped. It’s like this a lot of the game not just end. He does get in passing lines but he doesn’t move well one on one defensively

His man scored like 15 of his teams last 20 pts on Sheppard.

I only watched what you time stamped, but he went for steals because it was end of game and they were losing. His defense didn’t look any worse there than McKneely on Starling. But I didn’t watch the whole thing.

got it. I think McKneely is better guarding one on one. Sheppard uses his quicks and hops and his bbiq timing in the passing lanes for a lot of his steals.

Hasn’t Cal has been a better defensive than offensive coach in his Kentucky tenure? It’s his offense that pundits and fans are usually critiquing

I agree that McKneely is probably better right now and that Sheppard would be better coached on the defensive end under Bennett. But no way he would be 22-36 from 3-pt through 8 games as a FR at UVA.

Oh I have no idea about the 3pt shooting stuff. I dont think I was talking about that.

I love this for RD, and this is early December; imagine where he will be in March!

One thing I need to know about this list from some of you more knowledgeable than me: why is Proctor at 18? His numbers are worse than Reece’s across the board, so why is he projected to go 18th in the draft? Is it just anticipation and expectation that he will blow up sometime this season? I can’t think of any other explanation.

Because scouts think he has a higher ceiling. He’s much younger than Reece

He is a looong tall PG. I wasnt impressed with him last year but he started slow and really came on in second half of season

True, but has he sustained what he showed last season? It doesn’t seem like he has – and now he is injured – but there is time. Do you think his ranking, then, is based primarily on the potential he showed last season? (and size)

Agreed. I wasn’t asserting that Reece should be ranked higher than him but was using Reece’s numbers as a gauge of how Proctor has performed this season; maybe it is apples to oranges. Proctor just doesn’t seem like an All American as many predicted pre-season.

For me yes thats what is based on. I am terrible about understanding what the NBA looks for on players outside of pretty obvious ones

Here is another draft list:

RD at #6

Just want a few March Madness wins for our guy Dunn before he gets showered in cash.

Seriously. If we manage to put Sam Hauser, Trey Murphy, Ryan Dunn, and Reece Beekman into the NBA without getting a single NCAA tournament win out of any of them… well I’m not going to be happy about it, haha.

I’m hoping the number of wins you have in mind is 6.

Good discussion by Tony about Ryan on last night’s call. The expectations of the mock NBA Draft boards, how Tony and he discuss that, and how Tony perhaps coaches Ryan a little differently than other players.
