I think now that we have our coach and weāre still watching Villanova fumble their hire itās worth pausing for a moment to appreciate that Carla looks like she ran a great process and we got our guy with appropriate timing left to put together a great squad this year.
There was a ton of hemming and hawing on this board (myself included!) second-guessing the efficacy of the hiring process. But letās agree that in hindsight it looks like this was locked up and kept quiet and we are positioning Odom to have all the resources he needs to field a top 10 team within the next few years. Time will tell if we can actually execute on that goal, but all signs point to Carla and crew doing a bang up job.

agreed, and her comments at the press conference that essentially said we have a great basketball legacy and deserve a top coach were refreshing after spending time on message boards hearing opinions that range from āwe are a great jobā to āflippin burgers at hardees would be better than the UVa jobā

Itās quite possible that the only difference between UVaās and Villanovaās process is that our guy lost in the first round of the NCAAs while theirs is playing in the sweet 16

Hilarious āwhat ifā game to play right now; how would we feel today if Odom and VCU were still in the tournament and as such we still had no formally announced coach, much less one in town actively building his staff and re-recruiting the locker room with time to spare to start transfer recruiting before the Dead Period starts?

If Beekman wanted money to play in college another year, he couldāve easily gotten that from a number of schools besides us. Seems like he was just ready to start his pro career.
Dunn was a 1st rounder in a weak draft. He might not be if he waited till this year in a much stronger draft. He was right to go pro.

Dunn types who are older guys, fringe 1st rounders with real 1st round buzz but lots of potential to drop out of the 1st with another year in college to show what they canāt do while getting another year older, not so sure about that.

Keeping a roster together isnāt very realistic in todayās game. Bennett either needed to find a way to make it work on a year-by-year basis or get out of the game and go take a seat with Carla. He probably made the right call.
