🏀 Ryan Odom Transition

I really think he’ll be here as long as RO wants him. Griff had many opportunities to leave Longwood, but he liked it in Farmville and didn’t need the money. It took a super-tight relationship with RO to peel him away. I wouldn’t assume that he’ll behave like a climber.

Instead of names on the back of the jerseys, they could just put the NIL amounts…

Even simpler, just put the # of bags

Pretty sure we can get rid of the “dropping a bag” vernacular at this point. The bags were used in the quaint old days when the money was illegal and you needed something to hide it in. No one is using a bag anymore. Just handing over a paycheck. Probably has Social Security and income tax deducted already and everything.

Tbh, in the verkakte way the NCAA has backed into this, it’s more like the actual bags are now legal but the stuff that comes with being an employee (social security, tax withholding, etc.) is illegal because the NCAA won’t concede on their founding fiction of amateurism.

Dropping a bag sounds cool tho. Let’s keep rolling with that.

This was an interesting article, probably posted above / elsewhere:

Another spot he frequented was University Hall, then the home of Cavalier basketball. Aldrich and his law school buddies typically would enter the arena after UVA men’s games had started, with a definite plan of attack.

“We would never sit in the student section,” Aldrich recalled, smiling. “At that time, it wasn’t packed, and so we just meandered down to great seats. I remember it was so awesome getting to see ACC basketball up close.”

This part resonated. From '96-99 you could probably sit most anywhere you wanted as long as you looked like you belonged. On the other hand, some old UHall usher probably read this with a clenched jaw. Heh.

This was a great read, super cool to get an in depth look at Aldrich’s affinity for the school. Ultimately, getting the best coach is the most important criteria in these hires but man it means more when you know they’ve walked the grounds and lived and breathed UVA as a student. The references to NGRC (I was a lifeguard there all 4 years of my undergrad) and living near Barracks resonated with me in particular, bros really one of us lol

No bigs and no MTE. Tick tock, tick tock…

No info for Wake, Pitt, Louisville, either from what I could see. I didn’t look at the full conference, just some of the usual suspects (Duke, UNC, NC State, VPI, Miami, Stanford, all booked)

So is MD the only one on the schedule?

Great, so no idea who’ll be jumping center but I DO KNOW I have to see Buzz’s “blackjack dealer on an old timey riverboat casino” get-up for certain. FFS
