@HoustonWilson caught up with him.
How good of a pickup is this? Don’t know much about him.
First the NY Yankees made a change to allow beards, and now UVA will have a guy with long hair. It’s a new generation. Silas seems to have a great attitude and I’m excited to see what he can do, both on the glass and with his shooting development.
Is he the one from Arkansas?
Yes JW the lesser
Who was our last Boo Williams recruit before Silas?
Devon Hall, probably.
I kinda see it. Williams was awesome in that 2022 tourney. Defense especially. Didn’t he give Timme fits? (Well, Timme had 25, so maybe relatively)
Anyone else see Aamir Simms similarities? Maybe slightly less bouncy?
For those wondering:
Offered by Butler, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Miami, Mississippi, State, Pittsburgh, Seton Hall, Tennessee, VCU, Virginia Tech
I don’t mean to alarm anyone but I couldn’t help but notice that highlight video was from Peach Jam…
Some of us never gave up on the Jam despite the haters. Not gonna tag the haters, they know who they are.
Proud Hater
You know what else? I just looked up his AAU stats. He averaged about 3 ORs per game in AAU. Actually has a pretty healthy assist rate, too.
Original finalists also appeared to be VCU, Miami, and Butler.
From Finkelstein:
Barksdale is a high-volume rebounder who can play both inside and out offensively, and that’s a very hard combination to find.
He was one of the leading rebounders in the EYBL this year because of his ability to get boards both in traffic and outside his area, even utilizing his soft hands to tip balls to himself.
Offensively, his touch is just as soft as his hands. He’s a very good passer who teams can play through in the half-court. While he’s not quite yet as consistent a shooting threat from the arc, he can play out of dribble-handoffs and short-rolls. He’s also a legitimate presence in the lane who has a short floater game to help him compensate for his lack of length and vertical athleticism as a finisher.
Ultimately, there just aren’t many big men in the country who can play both inside and out in modern offenses and still dominate the glass. That combination is what makes him a high-major caliber big man, with plenty of untapped upside as he continues to improve his conditioning and extend his shooting…
