Adrien Stevens, We-R1 - There are a lot of guards who like to try to attack the rim. There aren’t many that do it as instinctively or efficiently as Stevens. A big, power guard at 6-foot-4, he’s plenty capable of bullying his way to the rim, but often doesn’t need to as he has a knack for improvising his path, just enough to find the gaps without wasting movement. Stevens, who came into the spring ranked no. 92 in the national class, is also a capable enough shooter when in rhythm to keep defenders honest.
I flipped through EYBL games for a few minutes the other day. Served as my annual reminder that spring AAU basketball is horrible. That and the HS/AAU game is getting worse as preparation for the next level. Team defense is so bad that the most talented players never need to shoot a jumper if they don’t want.
One portal recruiting is over, we need to 4 man literally every single Adrien Stevens aau game and tell him “you are our next Brogdon”. Even a high academic/I remember bugging HGN and him saying that could be a factor that favors UVA.
Hate that Shaka Smart spent the entire year camping out his games building that relationship with him. Hopefully closer to home + academics + Brogdon comp help
