I agree completely, but how many of the recruits Virginia fans bemoan losing imagine that they are OAD? I suspect most of them. As I said, if a prospect isn’t concerned with development and it’s a choice between Charlottesville and Durham, he’ll pick Duke every time.

Neither of these risks were known when Power committed. .

At best, they represent a general risk he would have been taking at any strong program.

Also worth remembering Power was “old” for his recruiting class; my hunch is that he would have rejected a redshirt proposal anywhere.

I could see PT/exposure being important factors. Duke assures at least some of the latter even if he got none of the former. UVa couldn’t do that.

But my take is that a Duke offer is just an undeniable validation for some cusp-of-elite recruits, inherent risks be damned.

Power would have been Tony’s highest rated recruit and he is merely “in the mix” at Duke.

Traudt was No. 64 in his class — highly coveted but not a blue chip. Power was No. 20 — highly coveted AND a blue chip.

The only similarity is that they are tall white dudes who can shoot a basketball. But one of them was recruited by everyone. The other was not.

Traudt was recruited by every major program except for Duke and Kentucky. Power was recruited by every major program except for Kentucky. Duke came on late. They may be different caliber players (I’m skeptical) but let’s not pretend they’re in different stratospheres
