Is this guy meant to be our wing stopper? If so, sounds good. Will wait on some defensive footage from @Cuts_from_The_Corner I guess
As a box score watcher, I am pretty uninspired by the career 46% FT shooting (and 32% his one season at SLU).
As a YouTube highlight watcher, I came away impressed with his 18 rebound game against Pepperdine.
Overall assessment: feeling neutral.
There’s your tillis replacement.
Big thing I think is to always play him with one of TDR or Johann for offensive spacing (or in a small lineup with Sam at the 4). I’ll really only cringe if he’s playing with Barksdale, as I think there’s some overlap in their games and limitations.
I like that. Not that I wasn’t a fan of Tillis, I just feel Anya brings a little more of what we need.
I’m a fan of this pick up…as long as his FT trips are limited.
He’s like bizarro Tillis. Good size, athleticism, defense, but no shot.
Was gonna say: he seems the opposite of Tillis. No shot but athletic.
He’s Sillit
D Atkins?
Darion had a midrange jumper that was like butter
maybe, but he was a turrible free throw shooter so that matches the new guy.
Seems like he is more of a 4 than a 3 and at 6’8 225, his body seems to agree along with his rebounding average and FG%. He does his work around the bucket. Seems as though he can guard several positions on switches at a high level. Need to watch some film but not a lot on him.
Ooh, yeah. I forgot how bad his FT numbers were
Could be our Isiah Evans stopper for the future ![]()
Of the seniors, how many would have extra years under 5 for 5 ruling?
Downside - he already redshirted so he for sure only has one year left - so no continuity…
Upside - he only has one year so he will ball out?
Upside maybe? - He only has one year so he’s not a long term roadblock to Silas, Martin - or any other younger recruits we try to sign over the next 12 months.
Upside - A late signing after roster is almost full so maybe staff won’t feel obligated to play him over Silas/Martin if they are earning minutes
Upside is he had a redshirt year to improve his game and is truly a grown ass man. And if the injury (sickness?) that impacted him last year is behind him then we could have landed a complete steal.
Yeah real potential for him to be this years Ugo find.
