🏀 Summer HS recruiting

“I was one of the first prospects to get an offer from the new staff at Virginia this summer,” Diane explained. “I really started knowing a lot about that staff when they were at Utah State, so I have known them for a long time.

First time I’ve seen a recruit reference his Utah St time, so they must have talked to him quite a while ago. Talks about official visit to UVa in the Fall, wanting to announce in November (insert standard HGN caveat about recruit-given timelines)

So Houston is main threat for Diane? Has Odom had a guy like him to compare?

A UVA friend ran into Latrell Allmond in an airport over the weekend, said Go Hoos and chatted for a minute. He told him he’s supposed to visit sometime in September. Kansas this weekend, and he’s already been to Indiana. Tennessee in the running too.

Just read that he postponed the Kansas visit for a family matter: Top-25 overall recruit Latrell Allmond postpones Kansas official visit - On3

I still say Odom surprises by pulling in one of these guys. Maybe it’s not a big big fish but someone with a current offer anyway. Then they’ll probably end up snagging another one they offer over the next few weeks when coaches go out, make it a two-man November signing.

If we’re manifesting, give me a Luca(s) - Morillo or Foster and Mystery Box player to be offered, and I’ll probably be happy.

That would be a welcome and pleasant surprise for where it appears things stand at the moment

Still think it’s unlikely but Arafan not committing on his Houston Visit was huge.

Not mentioned in the article is the Diane-Diakite Guinea connection

I do wonder if staff are already looking ahead to future portals. Just now checking in on staff follows for first time in a while and a few 2026 kids that probably wont get UVA offers but maybe they caught staff’s eyes and they are starting to relationship build now on a hedge they will be a portal all star in 2-3 years. (but also offer Shane Pendegrass and redshirt?)

edit: Or maybe they do get offers when Odom goes out in September

Top 6 for Morello. Marquette and UCLA mentioned frequently with him

Please, yes. Kinda funny that we might be the closest school to home for him? Can X put in a good word for us (City Rocks connection)? Actually, seeing that he’s got New Rochelle listed as his hometown on some sites, kinda seems like this is a recruitment Sanchez would have closed in an alternate universe (Dominican Republic connection, Ty connection).

Oh, damn, he’s from New Roc City? Well his fam is gonna love it when we play teams from Ohio in Nashville and Charlotte.

“Lucas and Elijah - great news: we scheduled your homecoming game! It’s in Bismarck North Dakota. And we are playing Florida Atlantic!”

Do people really call it New Roc City? Also, do New Yorkers consider it New York?

Incredible story that I found from the Wikipedia page: New Rochelle Mayor to Unload ‘Fatt Calfe’ As ‘Rent’ After Year of Waiting for Pell Kin - The New York Times

It has often seemed in the last thirteen months that this city, founded by the French Huguenots on land acquired from Sir John Pell, would fail in the 1688 promise to deliver a “fatt calfe” to Sir John’s descendants each spring as perpetual payment for the property.

Morillo went to Iona Prep, Ty’s high school, before reclassifying and transferring to Newman last year. I think he’s from NYC. He plays for the Dominican national team but I think that’s just a family heritage thing.

I’m assuming that’s why Tony and the old staff were on him early a little before his reclass into 2026?

My mom actually went to the college of New Rochelle and to my dismay, she never called it college of new roc city

Know you’re joking. But yes New Yorkers do consider New Rochelle NY since it is two towns away from the Bronx.

And, it was home to Rob and Laura Petrie!

My friend’s smartass older sister always referred to that show as “Penis van Lesbian.” Whenever Rob and Laura mentioned New Rochelle, I always imagined it as “Neuroshell,” and thought: whaa??-–a town named after the human skull??
