Gottlieb continuing to be good at getting into stories for weird reasons: Green Bay files waiver to play in The Basketball Tournament - ESPN
I appreciate them going for the “study abroad in the US” approach:
“When you play overseas, these teams that go to France, Spain, Belgium, whatever, those aren’t NCAA-sanctioned games,” Green Bay coach Doug Gottlieb said. “So the NCAA’s argument is, ‘Hey, in summer competition, you can’t play these games in the United States. They’re not NCAA-sanctioned.’ So if I played this exact same game three hours north of here in Canada, it’d be OK. It doesn’t make sense.”
There is also the cost aspect. For a school like Green Bay – especially as college athletics braces for the House settlement to be finalized – a foreign trip can be cost-prohibitive. By participating in an event like TBT, Green Bay’s waiver request made the case that it would be providing its athletes a similar experience within its means.

BVP is one of those players who didn’t do anything wrong for us - played his hardest and did what he was asked and even had some very nice moments - but I still grimace when I see him because of how badly we used him.

KG could surprise and play, but he is listed as GM on the Fail Harder roster and not a player. Think the same was the case last year.

So we have one former player GMing some Indiana team and another former player playing for a team repping the school he transferred out of. But we can’t get a team together. Grant Kersey needs to get off his butt next summer and save us.

By next summer, Odom will have 8 or so “alums” already - maybe that’s why he only wanted to recruit seniors. He can field a TBT team much faster!
