Anyone got that old Warley ā€œUVA?ā€ Instagram photo?

Medical redshirt is for amateurs. Every school does those. Voluntary redshirts is the pro move. The Virginia Way!

He left us twice. Fool me once …

Is he staying enrolled at UVA, though? That part isn’t clear to me. Personally, I hope that he finishes his coursework for the semester.

Looking forward to the Jeff White article.

ā€œWhile the other guys are back at the home wood suites, during road games, sampling the all you can drink juice bar, Jalen is at the gym getting up shots with the green team. Some of them hit the rim.

ā€˜J-Willy sat me down and told me that he wished he had an opportunity to transfer into Virginia for his senior year and sit after a HOF coach retired, and really work on his game, and collect another year of NIL. That really resonated with me.ā€™ā€

He’s not playing for us this year, but I’m unclear whether he’ll practice with the team, leave the team but stay at UVA, or transfer and not play for a different school.

I hope he doesn’t practice with the team, for the sake of team cohesion. But also because I’ve been wondering if practicing against a lockdown defender (like Warley or Reece) hurts offensive confidence and willingness to be aggressive.

According to Warley, ā€œI knew I wanted a redshirt year to work on my strength and conditioning and fundamentals. And I figured, who does redshirts better than Virginia? So yeah, this has been the plan all along.ā€

Maybe our space wasnt where Warley wanted to be in his space

Good question. I assume he’ll stay enrolled at UVA and finish the semester. As far as team activities, no idea. My previous view has always been ā€œmi casa es su casaā€ but these situations really start to strain that principle.

It sounds like he’s looking to transfer to a spot and then redshirt there? Why would he redshirt here? Is he planning on playing at UVA next year?

You’d figure he’ll have a much better view of other teams rosters in the spring. Transfer now, he may find himself locked into a bad situation. Plus, personal life considerations.

I forget the rules but maybe he will take a look at who needs a Jalen Warley in the spring (if anyone), and then take a second look in the spring portal season.

I know he’d sacrifice a semester of hoops that way, but he might gain a better situation where there’s less competition.

I know that words don’t really mean anything, but the headline on the article on virginiasports.com says ā€œJaylen Warley to Leave Virginia Basketball Programā€.

To me, leave makes it sound like a complete break, but who knows….

Do Dean and Markel get a partial refund for Interim

While I’d love to be that kind of wealthy, I can’t imagine allowing or demanding my name be listed whenever UVA puts out a basketball press release or article.

Let me confirm that for you as someone who practiced against Cornell Parker for 4 years. It’s soul-crushing.

Yeah redshirt definitely doesn’t have its normal meaning here. He’s just saying redshirt because he’s focused on maintaining eligibility. You can’t just decide to sit out and still be a full member of the team in practice/workouts (I mean I guess it’s technically possible, but highly improbable)

I honestly wonder if Dante Harris takes Warley’s roster spot?
