this is great question - he made his career being a top assistant for Calhoun and had a flash of success at DePaul, but he mostly lost every where he went as HC

Tbh I think if this roster succeeds it will be because Sanchez made it succeed. Itā€™s not an outright talented roster like Duke or UNCs. There are definitely some good pieces there but itā€™s going to take a good coaching job to drag this squad to the tournament. So if this season goes well it definitely speaks to his ability to lead a team and coach in season.

Now that doesnā€™t answer questions about recruiting and building a coherent rosterā€¦

Iā€™ve got Ames, IMac, Taine, Saunders, and Buchanan as starters to begin the year.

I think Taine gets the nod based on his experience in the program and I donā€™t see us starting ā€œbigā€ against a mid major. That could change over time, but Iā€™d guess we go that route for at least the first two games.

After that, Cofie, Rhode, and Power off the bench in some order but all solidly in the rotation, with Sharma and Bliss fighting for leftover guard minutes from there.

Taine feels like a guy that Tony Bennett wouldā€™ve rewarded with playing time for his loyalty and effort. Sanchez wasnā€™t around for Taineā€™s recruitment and doesnā€™t have the same relationship. I think the 2 minutes he got in the Georgetown scrimmage is telling.

Agree with this. They kinda need the Power-Saunders-Buchanan lineup to work, so I expect that it will get a lot of chances to see if it does.

Rohde played the 3rd most minutes in the scrimmages behind Saunders & IMac (technically not true since IMac sat one but you know what I mean).

Therefore I think it will be
Dai Dai, IMac, Rohde, Saunders, Buchanan

Saw Ron puting out some vid on X ā€¦ smart move ā€¦ he should do all he can to engage with UVA nation. Not Tonyā€™s thing to go all in on this but Ron can help himself and the program by doing all he can on this front. Ultimately, the team outcomes are going to determine his fate but if it is a close call ā€¦ might help him.
